Sure did. I can’t believe this is from Sowell.

A shoot-from-the-hip, bombastic showoff is the last thing we need or can afford.

No, Dr. Sowell. As much as I respect you, I can think of at least two things worse:

  1. A third term for Obama whether it be in the form of a shrill female shrew or an aging socialist who thinks four more years of the same policies are wonderful, albeit with a slightly different twist.
  2. A GOPe capon type who thinks the same but might possibly be open to the idea of watering them down just a little bit.

If ‘Conservative’ means ‘Ppen Borders’ and ‘TPP’, than yeah, National Review is ‘Conservative’.

Conservative? Meaning what exactly?

A couple weeks ago, from Neil McCabe on Armed American Radio:

"There's a jumpiness and there's an insecurity inside the Republican leadership because they don't actually believe the conservatism that they espouse because they don't believe it and they don't understand it. To them, it's just a script that they read to get the votes from all the hayseeds."

It’s a great point. The insinuation is we’re too stupid to think for ourselves.

I will, for one.

That article was akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater.

I now look at Thomas Sowell in the same way I’ve looked at Andy Griffith ever since he was bulls**ted by Ron Howard into doing a commercial supporting Hussein the monster in his first election run. The memory of Griffith will forever live in shame because of that lapse of judgment. Now Sowell, too, has become a deluded and senile old fool.

You, Sowell and National Review have now jumped the shark. Trump is Hitler? At the most basic psychological level, Hitler was a loser with everything to win. Trump is a winner with everything to lose.

Sowell just does not get it. Sorry pal, you lose.

Trump for President. We need an outsider with a fantastic ability to turn adversity around. The establishment just does not understand who Trump is.

So these self-appointed guardians of conservatism think they can take down the GOP's long-standing front-runner who is by far drawing the largest and most enthusiastic crowds and replace him with a first term sitting senator who has spent most of his working life in government.

Will they rally around Trump if he is the nominee? Will the Trump supporters rally around Cruz? This ham-handed attempt to boost Cruz by destroying Trump will backfire. Where were these guardians of conservatism when Boehner, McConnell, and now Ryan are working with the Dems to push Obama's agenda? No special issue devoted to exposing them.

Did I miss the issue four years ago “Against Romney”?

Mr. Sowell completely shattered Godwin's Law.

No, Sowell didn't call Trump a Nazi or a Hitler. He did point out that when the public chooses a leader based on emotion rather than on reason, the results can be quite bad for the public. Just witness the last 8 years of Obama. And now we are rushing pell-mell toward nominating a candidate that has no record, no core principles and we have no way of knowing what he will do if elected, other than the fact that he apparently has no concern for constitutional constraints.

I noticed the following in the screen capture of the NRO website: “Trump is a philosophically unmoored opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP.”

The statement that Trump is “philosophically unmoored”, while probably true, is probably the single biggest reason for his broad appeal among conservatives, moderates and more than a few Democrats. I can’t, however, reconcile why so many otherwise conservative people seem to have no doubts whatsoever about his sincerity and no lingering questions about his “dynamic” positions on a number of issues. Although I may be a Cruz supporter, I do have my lingering doubts about him as well.

As for the “broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP”? The problem is there isn’t a broad conservative ideological consensus; it doesn’t exist. There are only a handful of true conservatives in the entire Congress. Between Boehner (now Ryan) and McConnell, the conservatives - at least those who adhere to their principles and campaign promises (GASP!), are literal pariahs. And that, too, is the reason why Trump is so damned popular among such a broad spectrum of voters.

As many here on FR and in a number of national publications and blogs have suggested, the “Trump Phenomenon” is purely a creation of the GOPe and its abject ineptitude, if not total surrender to liberal/progressive ideology and the GOP is reaping what it has sown for a long time.

It’s called a disagreement. I support Trump, Mr. Sowell does not. Big frikkin’ deal!

OMG, you're not allowed to say that Miss Marmelstein! It is now required that you froth at the mouth and declare anyone who doesn't support your candidate a scum-sucking RINO.

I think it's a law or something.

I can understand you voting for a New York liberal because you believe his promises to build a wall on the Southern border and make deals that will make the country great again but I really don’t understand your expectation that lifelong conservatives like myself who do not believe Trump willy rally around a lifelong New York moderate at best. Not going to happen.

However if Trump wins the nomination he will tack left and just might be able to put enough votes together from center left to right to win the swing states.

Thomas Sowell firmly believes in “free Trade’ and open borders at all costs. We are nationalist. Conservatism is nationalists. NEO CONS don’t give a crap about your job. They want to sell cheap crap and make billions. They want 1 million apple Chinese employees working for $3 a day ( That is actually true— look it up 1 MILLION JOBS). We don’t give a crap about China. “Free trade” has destroyed millions of jobs and industries, Trump is a pragmatic trader who will not allow them to tariff our goods while we don’t tariff theirs. Pretty simple stuff. It no more Mr. push over. That is why the open borders crowd like Brent Bozo and Dr. Sowell are getting paid big bucks to write this crap.
