This will be the case even if the traveler is from a country in the U.S. visa waiver program -- the 40 nations seen as friends of America whose citizens can visit freely.

Aside from the obvious, why would we allow entry of anyone from these countries?

It goes for people from friendly countries whose passport shows that they visited these countries.

Rules? We don’t need no stinkin’ rules!

Rules are made to be broken.

How about we follow the rules already on the books instead of adding more that won’t be followed?

Or Israel, either side of the green line, and really we ought to be included, keep the disease from spreading.

It goes for people from friendly countries whose passport shows that they visited these countries.

One problem is that a lot of countries don't stamp the passports. Another is that most of the jihadies who go to Syria don't cross the border through customs.

Lastly there is nothing to prevent someone from simply ordering a new "clean" passport before getting on a plane to the US.

Definitely. This is too little, and also too late. Shutting the barn door when the wolf is already in.
