The White House denied Tuesday that the U.S. paid Iran $1.7 billion as ransom to gain the release of American prisoners, saying the payment settled a long-running claim by Tehran over military equipment.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the payment last weekend was âa very good deal for taxpayersâ because Iran was actually seeking interest payments of up to $8 billion for the decades-old claim.
âOur exposure when it came to paying interest could have been much higher,â Mr. Earnest said.
A spokeswoman for Speaker Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, criticized the administration for paying âransomâ to gain the release of a Christian pastor, a Washington Post reporter and two other Americans who had been held by Iran.
Mr. Earnest said the speakerâs office was âwrongâ about the claim of a ransom payment. But he said it was ânot a coincidenceâ that the financial issue was settled at the same time as the prisoner release and the U.S. lifting economic sanctions against Tehran in a deal to limit Iranâs nuclear program.

Where did Obama get the $1.7 billion ?
“Decades old”. What’s that tell ya? I detest this lying sob.
From us.
If he says it wasn’t for ransom, it was for ransom.
From his stash, of course.
Josh, when I want to hear your Bull0bama, I’ll beat it out of you with a baseball bat.
Is there such a thing as the verb "delie"?
The White House delied Tuesday that the U.S. paid Iran $1.7 billion as ransom to gain the release of American prisoners...
I wonder how much non-ransom the U.S. will pay for the recently kidnapped Americans?
Think of it this way, when Iran blows an EMP and puts the East Coast out of business then their ransom will buy a pound of salt from Cargil. Oh, that is unless they paid it from our Gold reserves....
The WH Protests: “It wasn’t a ransom it was a ‘thank you.’”
How islamic of Obama to readily recognize and pay cash to his brothers!
Look, we pay ransom, we subsidize ethanol and windmills and we donate large money to Democrats an RINO’s. It’s the new conservative paradigm.

Recall that this Islamist White Hut refused to discuss the hostages when we got NOTHING in return for Iran’s signature on a document that did not pass through the halls of Congress.
We’re back to the Barbary Pirates.
They think we are stupid. Every action they take, and their lame responses to defend them, proves it every damned day.
“White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the payment last weekend was ââ¬Åa very good deal for taxpayersââ¬Â because Iran was actually seeking interest payments of up to $8 billion for the decades-old claim. “
Translation: The White House Paid Liar stated the taxpayer had been outrageously f__ked and should thank His Arrogance for the opportunity for the gratuitous sex.
The Democrats play at several layers of lies.
Obama and Hillary used US taxpayer provided funds, equipment, personnel and facilities to overthrow the government of Libya and have Qadaffi killed so they could steal Libya’s wealth.
The enemy found out and hit us in Benghazi.
They started blackmailing Obama.
They wanted more money. Obama can’t give them money from “his stash”. He has to get that kind of money (billions) from the U.S. Government. So he tells the Iranians where the boats are and then pays the blackmailers. He tells the money disbursing officials that it’s ransom for the Sailors and that it needs to be kept quiet.
These are the same blackmailers that Hillary “lost” $6,000,000,000 of State Department money to.
Hell, Hillary and Obama might be in on the blackmailing.
Layers and layers of lies and deceit.
