The Truth About Donald Trump
theresurgent.com ^ | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/19/2016 5:20:14 AM PST by RoosterRedux

I like him personally. I've been to his office. I've observed him privately dealing with his staff and people coming inside his building. He is personally, when the cameras are turned off, an incredibly gracious person. I know many people who do not believe that because all they see is the public Trump, but when the lights are down, the cameras are turned off, and Donald Trump, not "The Donald", is present, he's a good guy.

Not only that, but as I've mentioned before, Trump Hotels are some of the best I've ever stayed in. I try never to miss an opportunity to stay in the Trump Chicago and the Trump Hotel on Central Park has generated fond memories for my family.

Donald Trump is not my cup of tea as a candidate. I'm more into candidates who try to lift us to the better angels of ourselves and I do not think his campaign is doing that right now. Before I started writing about politics, I worked in politics. As a rule of thumb, I think anger burns out and it is tough to sustain over time. If Donald Trump really has become a conservative, I take St. Paul to heart that we should not put new converts in charge. He needs some time helping the movement before he leads the movement.

At the same time, so many of us, myself included, have been wrong about Trump's appeal. I have tried to steer clear of the rank condescension towards Trump supporters because a lot of people have legitimate grievances against the government and Trump resonates with them.

Me, me, me...I, I, I.....biggest name dropping no-talent opportunist so-called conservative host in radio, IMO.

Who cares what he thinks. He disses Trump with a disinvite to RSG because he liked his "good friend Jeb" and then all of a sudden moves on from Redsate.com to expand his horizons.

Go eat another cheeseburger and some onion rings Erick.

All politicians have failed, especially the “anointed” one.

Time to hire a specialist that didn’t fabricate or pad his resume.

Nice try Erick. When given the opportunity to join Trump on his crusade to rid America of the scourge of political correctness however... you blinked.

Even Erick is feeling the ‘sea change’ effect.

However, Erick.....Mr.Trump will remember how insultingly rude you were to him, and tried to derail him.....We remember that too!

Now that EE has admitted he was at least somewhat wrong and has written an article that is 95% positive about Trump - I wonder if he’s still be just a hack GOP E mouthpiece loser?????

“I’m more into candidates who try to lift us to the better angels of ourselves”

I don’t think that’s who we have to be right now. In fact, we can’t afford to. I see where we have a need to win by any means necessary. The time for being thought of as “the better angels of ourselves” has, for the time being, long-since passed. We can return to that endeavor after we know the way is clear enough to make some real progress.

That was well written, however, I am a little confused as to whom he is talking about in his last sentence:

Whether Trump makes it out of Iowa the winner or not, Republicans will owe Trump thanks for exposing their fault lines and flaws and showing just how inept, corrupt, and out to lunch the Washington Republican consultant class has become.

If he is talking about the Republican Establishment, it will never happen. If he is talking about the Republican base, we already knew this. Trump leads the pack because he is beholding to no special interests, as far as anyone can tell at least. Cruz comes up second because he is a true conservative, but doesn't have the resources Donald Trump has. I just wish the 2 would settle down and quit attacking each other because it helps neither of their causes. Nor does it help our, conservatives, causes.

I’m more into candidates who, if elected, would leave me the hell alone and get their hands off my wallet. Who looks for politicians to “lift” anything?

Can we please quit posting Eric Erickson’s drivel. He’s a nobody trying to make money off this election. He’s started off as a Jim Robinson wanna bee. But failed.

Rank condescension? Who made you Grand Vizier of Better Dreams for Tomorrow Land, waiving a perfumed handkerchief at the rather smelly peasants, who might have a grievance about his bailiff trampling the potato vines we worked so hard to plant.

I never knew who this AH was before, but we are already done. I can't hear you. Never ever.

How did my opinion turn you into a name caller?

I believe there will be room for all kinds of forgiveness during and when this race is over.....

I also believe when people reveal themselves as duplicitous, they are to be held accountable.
Forgive yes, and move on.
But trust will be a longer road.....and one that must be proven.

Well you know Eric, Trump has done just that. His punching the lights out of political correctness has made a way for the rest of us to follow. Case in point: I've never heard "Merry Christmas" on so many lips as I did in 2015, and that from many of the liberal "journalists". Just one example.

Saw a video snippet of Trump from 25 years ago (on Oprah unfortunately). Asked if he had aspirations to run for president he said not now but if things got to the point of financial desperation in the US, he would consider doing so. No it is not about the money, it is about the Country. His comments about the deficit and trade were exactly word for word what he is saying today. No wonder he does not need a teleprompter.

I guess you’re right....
.....and maybe I have a longer memory than Mr,Trump...
....because while I don’t think Trump will hire Erick on his team, he may very well try to build bridges.

it’s up to Trump

Actually, you’ve hit home!!

Forgiveness is the KEY!

I was remembering how Erick treated Mr,Trump at the beginning...
.... And this does read like a mea culpa today.

The nicer angel would say....Forgive
