Cowboys Rescue City From Stampede, Then Give The Most Hilarious TV Interview Ever
The Federalist ^ | 1-16-16 | The Federalist Staff

Two cowboys at Texas Tech University hilariously explain to a reporter how they saved their city from a stampede of runaway cows.

When a pair of runaway cows got loose in downtown Lubbock, Texas, several cowboy members of the Texas Tech Ranch Horse Team were deployed to coral the bovine trouble makers. What happened next will make you want to move to Texas immediately.

The video, which appears to have originally been broadcast in 2011 but went viral earlier this week, is 5 minutes and 39 seconds of pure hilarity.

Sherrod Greeson - cowboy, hero, patriot, student - explains in a thick, West Texas accent how the curious incident of the cows in the day-time began.

"I was in class, a very important class mind you, when I get a call that says there's two cows on the highway," the Texas cowboy patriot told a reporter. "So I jump in the Toyota and we run down there."

The task was tricky, because several of the horses the cowboys were riding were "shod" (wearing horseshoes), which prevented them from being able to gain much traction on pavement. One of the cows gave them an extra bit of trouble after she continually evaded capture and then bashed her head through an attorney's office in downtown Lubbock.

"A woman was sitting on the other side [of the glass] and she was all bent out of shape," another cowboy in a black hat explained. "Real shook up."

"We're gonna need some insurance, as far as Texas Tech, I believe," Greeson said.

With some grit and a little bit of luck, the cows were finally wrangled and returned to their owner.

"How exciting was this for you?" the reporter asked.

"On a scale of one to ten? Eleven," Greeson said. "This was better than teevee, I guarantee you that."

"How long have you been doing that kind of stuff?" the reported followed up.

"Well I woke up this morning, so I guess it's been about seven hours," Greeson responded.

Though the downtown scenery added drama, the two men explained that herding runaway cattle is just part of the job of your everyday American cowboy patriot.

"We do it everyday, so it was pretty cool everyone passing us and honking their horns and seeing our hats and horses and thinking we were pretty cool," the black-hatted cowboy said.

"This is all a day in the life of a Texas Ranch Horse Team member," Greeson concluded.

My oldest son graduated from Texas Tech and still holds fond memories of the place. It took him from September to Thanksgiving to acquire the accent. His grandmother from California couldn’t understand him by Christmas!

When we lived in San Antonio, our next-door neighbor was a Texas Highway Patrol officer. He had a hilarious story about being in his patrol car, facing off an enraged bull in the streets of (iirc) Kerrville.

Everybody had a lot of fun in the interview. I think the reporteress may have gotten together with the first guy afterwards, she seemed to really like him.

What a treat reminds me of an interview by a naive young woman of the grand champion steer owner at the Kentucky State Fair.
She asked if the steer would be used for stud service. The face on the owner and shaking of camera while camera man laughed was priceless

When I was in high school we had a party at my place one night and as usual people showed up I had never seen before.

No problem.

One guy I didn’t know was leaving and decided he would walk out in the pasture to try and find himself some mushrooms to get high.

A cow in the pasture had a different idea.

I don’t know how many times the cow ran over him before he made it back to his car but even that didn’t stop the cow.

She stuck her head through his window and got her head stuck.

When the guy walked back up to where we were having the party to get help to get the cow out of his car we all laughed ourselves silly at him because he was one muddy and bloody mess.

That cow did a number on that boy.

One of the cows [ . . . ] bashed her head through an attorney's office in downtown Lubbock.

"A woman was sitting on the other side [of the glass] and she was all bent out of shape,"

Really. Getting all bent out of shape from a cow smashing through your door!

I've learned long ago not to read stories with the word “hilarious” in the headline.
