......BURNS, Ore.-The armed activists occupying a national wildlife refuge in southeastern Oregon clashed with environmentalists Saturday as the standoff stretched into a 15th day.

Meanwhile, authorities said a Cescent man arrested Friday for use of a stolen refuge vehicle also likely faces charges for violating a court order to stay off federal property.

Kenneth Medenbach, 62, was taken to the Multnomah County Jail, where was booked Friday night, according to jail records showing him held without bail Saturday on a "facility hold."

According to The Associated Press, The Oregonian reports that a shouting match erupted as members of the Center for Biological Diversity, a nonprofit environmental group, tried to speak at a news briefing.

The center's executive director, Kieran Suckling, tried to speak, but the activists screamed and booed at him.

Suckling said his group had a more civil interaction with the occupiers afterward. He said it was important to be present and to not criticize the occupation from the sidelines......

The taking of Western lands for various and sundry federal purposes, however noble in some cases, is infringing on the farming and ranching industries of those areas.

Its infringing on basic rights like the ‘pursuit of happiness’ described in the Declaration of Independence.

I think its pretty sad that words like ‘militants’ are being used against those folks out there at the refuge which is what some media use to describe terrorists.

Its also sad that Steven and Dwight Hammond are in a federal prison for a second time under some ‘anti-terrorism’ law for lighting a backfire to protect their property from a brush fire.

The ONLY land that this rag tag group has any say over is the land that they paid for and pay property taxes for. That is it. I don’t care if their land was used by animals for 500 years. If it is not their land then the owner being federal government or otherwise can say get off my land. Period.

Still don’t know what the significance of Oregon is. But really am not interested in knowing. of course liberal media is saying they are tea party conservatives as much as they can. I hate the doosh bags because of that. They are not conservative in any way. They are trespassers at best.

Crap like what happened to the Hammonds makes me want to found a “Deep underground sovereign country” A literal underground colony built actually underground in some old used up salt mine, using a deep geothermal well for energy and greenhouses for food and small animals for protein.

And then seal the damned thing up and expand underground by digging new tunnels and hope the people above ground forget the hell we even exist.

Is politics and the Republican Party going to change things in this country????? Are Donald Trump or Ted Cruz going to ride in on white horses????

I have zero percent faith in the D’s and since 95 percent of Republicans support folks like Paul Ryan for Speaker that only leaves five percent faith in the GOP from where I stand.

The land problems out West have been going on for decades and only gotten worse for the folks who live there as the federal rules, regulations, environmental policies etc. have tightened the screws.

There may be, in fact I know there are crazy people out there, but Martin Luther King had some crazy folks like Bayard Rustin around him, a Communist who was busted for cruising a men’s room.

Civil disobedience, whether one is unarmed or has a pistol strapped on them, is a serious step with serious consequences which people who get arrested in such situations have to face.

Its takes a faith in some power beyond one’s self to decide to break laws and face consequences, even if there are some crazy ideas in the same room.

Reverend Everett Sileven Ramsey, who had some anti-Semetic ideas in his head about the Jews in Israel today not being the real ones, fought rightly for the freedom of parents in Nebraska to educate their children back in the early 1980’s.

I met this man and covered his story in the religious media back then.

I commend it to you and others out here to illustrate what may be needed beyond politics in the day we live in.

He’s in federal custody at this point, that’s the bottom line with the Portland jail being in essence a federal holding facility for him.

The man is considered in violation of a federal court order on him from a previous case.

Walk the streets of Portland and you will get the impression that it is a place that is living back in the 60’s. Hippies, tie-dyed shirts, zoned out or high on whatever they put in their veins or lungs, dirty clothes, wild eyed, staggering, drunken, filth of humanity. I will pass up any chance of going there again. It is a nauseating picture, still in my mind after 13 years has passed. Now, about their politics?....
Never mind that!
