Nearly half of millennials, or 48 percent, believe that the American Dream is dead, according to a report from Generation Opportunity.
The report, which evaluates the outlook for millennials on various economic indicators, finds that many young adults have lower levels of personal income and wealth and higher levels of student loan debt than the two previous generations.
One of those metrics is the unemployment rate, which is 8 percent for millennials ages 18 to 29, which is much higher than the rate for those 30 years and older at 3.7 percent. The labor force participation rate, which accounts for those who either have a job or pursued one, is 71 percent, the lowest it has ever been. Many young adults have been unable to find work, and more than 1.8 million have given up looking for a job.
Most Millennials have have no clue as to what the American Dream truly is.
When you are drug-addled and have constant nightmares...sure the American dream is dead. What did you expect?
Well, if you aren’t driven, it’ quite possible. But, we are acquainted with a young man(mid 30’s?), who is a Polish immigrant, locally, that works two jobs as a waiter and also flips houses at the same time. Is he driven? Uh, yeah. Opportunity is there and he’s taking advantage of it and NOT getting assistance from anybody. Just his own hard work and drive. Actually, we a know a couple of people that work more than one job to achieve their desires. My hat is off to them as well. The dream is still out there. It’s your/their desire to achieve it if you want it bad enough.
When you worked hard to gain marketable skills and apply them to do a good job, but see rank, pay and preference go to incompetent scions of the ruling class and their cronies and toadies, sure the American dream is dead.
“Royals” by Lorde is the ultimate Millenial lament.
“Foil” by Weird Al is its wickedly funny parody.

No they don’t. That’s why they think it is dead and that’s why it is mostly dead. When young adults give up, you’ve lost the future.
Just look at their “dreams” when the “Congrats Seniors” articles start to appear in May. The ones that get featured are the movers and shakers of their class and most of them want to start a non-profit to accomplish some vaguely infantile concept like “save the planet” or “raise awareness for...” This generation has been taught that “raising awareness” is more important than actually doing something because the awareness raisers are the people who get the undefined “doers” to fix the problem.
The American Dream is to be a Doer of Great Things, not a consciousness raiser.
They think that a ribbon campaign “for the cure” is a better thing to do because it is much easier than actually finding a cure and can be declared a success after minimal effort. That is no American Dream!
Because they wanted the Dream without working for it.
We don’t produce anymore and that is why we are dead.
Our spirit is dead and that is why we are dead.
In Coming Apart, Charles Murray did a great job showing that the truly American values are:
* industriousness
* honesty
* religion
* marriage
Does anyone doubt these are in slow decline and will be all but wiped out in one or two generations?
They are learning quickly; as long as people two generations ahead of them are alive, they’ll hear stories about the “before-times”...
Then they should vote for Trump.
Because they wanted the Dream without working for it.
they are a total waste, they think working ruins their lives.
You’re right. When you spend 5 years in college majoring in Women’s Studies, you are not going to be able write your own ticket on Wall Street. The American Dream is seizing the opportunities you have and working hard enough to make that dream come true. Millennials want to graduate and instantly find a job making 6 figures while working 4 hours a day.
I also like the parody by Barely Political (Key of Awesome #78).
I hope those Tibetan 12th. century poem classes as well as Medieval English language studies do them well hunting for a job.
...
* industriousness
* honesty
* religion
* marriage...
Each has been under intense attack by fringe lunatic liberals, all of whom are now the mainstream Democrats.
WHAT..! But, but I just got my Bachelors degree in bussing tables..
You’re right that millennials have a poor work ethic compared to prior generations, but the fact is that many of the degrees some of us got won’t help them at all. In the financial sector I see plenty of imported Asians taking jobs that could go to young Americans with those degrees - the companies simply don’t want American workers. Frighteningly, those coolies are moving up and replacing many middle-aged Americans in those fields as well.
They are more concerned about getting laid. Obama is certainly more sexy than McLame. Maybe O made women more likely to get into the mood.
