I should add, at the risk of unintentionally overpowering the thread, that every producer/editor knows it costs nothing to spike a story. Nothing. Michael Isikoff is happily retired (after - ironically - giving NBC the finger in 2014), as I imagine are all of the Newsweek editors that spiked Lewinsky.
