Assumptions. What we know: a bunch of highly trained and armed sailors surrendered, humiliated, and apologized — all within a couple of hours. No woulda or coulda.
We know people will lie to the loved ones to cover up the truth.
She, an American sailor, was forced to submit to Islam.
Woulda been nice if he wasn’t looking happy and smirking.
This wasn’t exactly the saga of the USS Samuel B Roberts, the destroyer that fought like a battleship. Shameful.
Boats not broken, just too much air in the fuel tanks.
At least 3 Ma-Deuces and 2 mini-guns !!??!! No Freakin way!!
These guys were captured by people in fiberglass boats ??
Historic!
Looking at a map I don’t believe it would be possible for the US boats to inadvertently violate Iranian waters.
It’s right down the coast. Heck navigating by the sun would have been obvious whether they were traveling east into foreign waters. They could have kept the shoreline in view the whole way.
Something doesn’t compute.
Either they were following a GPS that was punked/jammed to lead them off course. Possible
Were on a mission intentionally into Iranian waters. Unlikely.
What else?
And by the way, why couldn’t the second boat tow the broken down boat, IF that is what happened.
Something very fishy about this incident.
They both were.

“I served in the military. We were trained to only give our serial numbers.”
On the other hand, the military and the nation broke the deal implicit in the code of conduct by abandoning hundreds of men in Laos at the end of the Vietnam war. Getting you mug on TV is just good sense these days.
What do you mean? Do you mean that you would actually like to see the evidence so that we can do something or
Do you mean you think our sailors were just cowardly?
What a horrible attitude.
Were all of the weapons returned?
It makes me ill that Iran still has 5 American prisoners, but that’s another story. Why? Well that is the 160 billion dollar question!
I suspect (don’t know for sure) that their ROE prevented them from engaging when they were approached. If thie boats entered Iranian water then the ragheads were within their rights to interdict them. However, a simple radio call would have been appropriate instead of an armed encounter. If the riverines were in International water then we owe the ragheads an armed response if one of their vessels get too close to our Battle Group. Not necessary to sink them but enough to let them know it’s not a good idea. Even that is probably prevented buy the ROE the BG is operating under. As for the Skipper issuing an apology, he was under duress. His crew was stone faced. He didn’t do anything wrong but his career is effectively over. My $.02.
My take too.
Correction, the 150 billion plus the nuke dollar question,
I read that earlier but couldn’t remember where. Thanks for posting. So this was but a delivery run for 0. Wonder whats they got? The crew unfortunately will be sworn to secrecy by Iran and 0.
Eh, when it's short-news-cycle smallball as this was, who really pays attention to any of this other than US, Iran, Saudi, and Russia?...Would have agreed with you if Iran had kept them and taken them to Tehran.
By far and away a bigger story is how the f did our Hellfire missile end up in Cuba?
Both is what I read.
I read - not allowed to eat with the men or be at the table.
I also read - not allowed to eat at all.
