Speaker Ryan invites Little Sisters of the Poor to State of the Union

Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan has invited Sister Loraine Marie Maguire and Sister Constance Veit, of the charitable Catholic order Little Sisters of the Poor, as his guests at the annual State of the Union Address this month.

“The Little Sisters of the Poor care for the most vulnerable among us, and they should be free to practice their faith without the threat of government interference or intimidation,” Ryan said in his announcement of the invitation Monday. “The Sisters’ stand in defense of religious liberty — one of our most fundamental rights — is nothing short of courageous, and it’s my privilege to support their cause.”

The Little Sisters have been one of the most high-profile targets of the Obama Administration’s efforts to force religious groups to provide contraceptive coverage. The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against them last summer, but the US Supreme Court agreed in November to hear their case, as part of a consolidated consideration of all pending cases against the contraception mandate.

“For us, this has nothing to do with politics,” Sister Veit declared in October 2013. “We just want to take care of the elderly poor without being forced to violate the faith that animates our work.”

On Friday, Texas Senator and GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz proposed another gesture to symbolize the pro-life cause’s importance at the presidential address, an empty chair to recognize the more than 50 million preborn children killed by abortion.

Yeah, sure - after the POS first fully funds everything that attacks them and their beliefs. Ryan is a lying back-stabbing hypocrite who needs to be primaried and get his butt tossed down the capital steps.

After refusing to fight for them by utilizing Congressional control over spending, Ryan wants to pander with this empty gesture; thinks it might get him some votes in November.

I appreciated the president leaving a chair empty to symbolize the 60 million dead from abortions.

I noticed that this state of the union President Obama did not point out his guests for the speech. I wonder if it was because the moment that he mentions his guest every news outlet would also mentions the nuns that are fighting for there religious freedom in the courts is in the viewing gallery as Paul Ryan’s guest.

A little too late, Mr. Speaker.

Maybe there is something in the water in D.C.

A bigger bunch of weak sticks have never served and Ryan is at the top of the list tied with McConnell.

It’s really sick. Look at Germany with Merkel..makes no sense..Look at Ryan and the republicans openly wanting open borders too against the people

Can Soros really be controlling all these people?

Ann Coulter
1 hr

Only time Paul Ryan applauded was when Barack Obama talked about admitting Muslims. Because we are never stronger than when we admit people who hate us.

They fully funded Planned Parenthood, and now throw the people crumbs of appeasement.
