WaPo (Op-Ed): Ted Cruz Not Eligible
Washington Post ^ | January 12, 2016 | Mary Brigid McManamon

Posted on 01/12/2016 10:09:44 AM PST by Behind the Blue Wall

Donald Trump is actually right about something: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) is not a natural-born citizen and therefore is not eligible to be president or vice president of the United States.

The Constitution provides that "No person except a natural born citizen . . . shall be eligible to the office of President." The concept of "natural born" comes from the common law, and it is that law the Supreme Court has said we must turn to for the concept's definition. On this subject, the common law is clear and unambiguous. The 18th-century English jurist William Blackstone, the preeminent authority on it, declared natural-born citizens are "such as are born within the dominions of the crown of England," while aliens are "such as are born out of it."

. . .

Cruz is, of course, a U.S. citizen. As he was born in Canada, he is not natural born. His mother, however, is an American, and Congress has provided by statute for the naturalization of children born abroad to citizens. Because of the senator's parentage, he did not have to follow the lengthy naturalization process that aliens without American parents must undergo. Instead, Cruz was naturalized at birth.

I'll only comment on the hypocrisy in the mainstream media, which has treated the Cruz issue seriously with well-researched articles and published opinions from learned scholars of constitutional law, whereas with Obama it was strictly ridicule. But the fact remains, Cruz isn't eligible.

So Wait, let me get this straight. Two Mexicans can sneak across the border, Zero Percent American in any way.

Punch out a baby 400 Feet in Texas and that Kid is a 100% American entitled to all our rights and benefits?

But An American Citizen who is in another country and has a baby, THAT baby isn't an American Citizen? Even if he was born to an American?

WTF kind of sense does that make!?

Oh Wait it doesn't because Ted Cruz IS an American Citizen through and through.

I think Cruz falls into the "eligible" category as do all children of American citizens do if those children happen to be born in a foreign country.

I ONLY know this because there WERE pregnant American women in the KSA who gave birth there too. Their children were considered U.S. citizens.

Of course, maybe the laws have changed.

Those hammering this issue are surpassing parody and are fast approaching burlesque.

"Cruz was naturalized at birth" but not natural born?

Is this like a natural partial birth abortion?

WaPo. Nuff said.

Yet they have no problem with Obama hiding everything about his past.

I know Cruzies don’t want to hear it but Trump is right.

We need to restore the rule of law. And eligibility is another area that needs clarification by the courts and election processes put in place to confirm eligibility of candidates before elections.

What’s more, Trump even outlined a process whereby Cruz could get a Federal court to rule on the matter and settle it.

Democrats will suddenly discover this argument, en masse, in September of this year, if Cruz is our nominee.

That much you can bet on.

“He’s not a natural born citizen,” BUT

He “was naturalized at birth.”

He is just “not a natural born citizen” because of his politics.

How about how many of Hillary’s emails were born classified?

The mainstream media have no shame whatsoever. Double standards are just fine with them. It’s all about the cause, ethics be damned.
