From end of the article: “.....Shrink the government, and when people ask where those former government employees are going to work we’ll have some nice manufacturing jobs waiting for them.”

Absolutely, so don’t hesitate to eliminate.

Gov workers are destroying this country.

They get paid double what their private sector counterparts are paid (benefits), retire earlier (55), get every city, county, state and federal holiday off, never work more than 40 hours a week, complain endlessly, as a group vote for those who raise taxes and then (endlessly) increase their salaries (annual 2% cola plus 2-5% performance), are mostly unionized, and produce absolutely NO wealth for the country.

Any hope for revitalizing this country’s economy begins with massive defunding of gov workers salaries, pensions and benefits.

Otherwise it’s same ole same ole, higher taxes to accommodate the unionized gov workers constant demand for salary increases.

This article might have some good points, but the basic premise here is a lot of nonsense. Anyone who measures a sector of our economy based on the number of people employed in that sector doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

When this country was founded, approximately 19 out of every 20 people -- that's 95% of the nation's work force -- worked in some form of agriculture. Our standard of living was primitive by any modern measure, and our total national output of agricultural products was a fraction of what it is today ... even with agriculture comprising only 1.5% of our work force.

On the other hand, we manufacture far more goods than ever before. We just don’t need any workers to do it!

There were 21,995,000 employed by federal, state and local government in the United States in August, according to BLS.

That has to change. This is insane.

“21,995,000 employed by federal, state and local government”

21,995,000 employees multiplied by average salary/benefits of 100,000/yr =

2.2 Trillion per year.

What gets produced for that? Other than massive debt?

We could outsource all gov jobs to India/China and cut that to 500 million/year and probably get better results especially in our roads, bridges, hospitals and most especially schools.

There are many more who get their incomes from the government. Add contractors, etc.

Leviathan (Uncle Sam employs more people than you think)
National Review ^ | 02/03/2011 | Iain Murray
"...nearly 40 million Americans employed in some way by government."

And that probably does not include pensioners.

Have a look at where the so-conservative state and local government folks put their money in politics.

OpenSecrets.org
American Fedn of St/Cnty/Munic Employees [State/County/Municipal Employees]
[Total Contributions:] $94,708,977
[To Dems & liberals:] $93,739,954
[To Repubs & Conservs:] $671,755
[Pct to Dems & liberals:] 99%
[Pct to Repubs & Conservs:] 1%

Article V convention? I don't think so. And services dependent on government for regulating against competition...

American manufacturing is big—American-”based” manufacturing on foreign soil, that is! Don’t let the freedom betrayers fool you with talk about manufacturing indexes.

Bureaucracy is predatory at the Federal and State levels. These bureaucrats are an estate unto themselves making their own rules with the force of law and their own courts that operate w/o due process. Pay raises, bonuses and promotions keep these parasites fat and happy.

The bureaucrat needs to fear the citizen, then we will start to move towards liberty. If not, the system will implode and the bureaucrat will lose their salary, benefits, pension and face the just retribution from their prey.

Repeat after me: public employees don’t pay taxes.

Say this as many times as you need to until is sinks in. NO public employee pays ANYthing for taxes, retirement, unemployment insurance, medical benefits, ANY of it.

This is a fundament of economics as simple as “you get more of what you subsidize and less of what you tax.” and almost no one gets it and certainly no one is talking about it. Not out in the open. It’s contrary to how our consensus public education victimhood would have us think about wealth creation, redistribution, generational theft.

How can someone who is PAID by taxing the wage-earners, the ones who CREATE value in the economy, pay taxes? It may say they do on their pay stub, sure, and they are asked to “put in a little more” for benefits, but in reality, every time a public employee from President Obeyme down to the least-paid garbage collector (cough-cough… don’t they make something like $200,000 a year in New York City?) gets a raise, it is paid for by someone who MAKES that money. The money they are paid is redistributed from wage-earners.

Think of it this way: a public employee saying the too pay taxes is like a man standing in a bathtub with a tea cup scooping up and pouring out water saying “see, I’m filling the tub.”

Think it over. Change the conversation. Pass it along. Open someone else’s eyes.

The discussion should be, are we truly getting value for our money spent and how do we take control of government “by, of and for the people” back from politicians corrupted by taxpayers dollars laundered through teachers/public employee unions, planned parenthood, Solyndra, GE, and all the rest?

How do we delegitimize the naming of roads, public buildings, parks, stadiums after “public officials” who have made a lifetime’s wealth out of bilking the true wage-earners out of the fruits of their labor and, like Mooch hell Obeyme, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, done their level best to make them feel guilty for wanting to keep more of it while they live large at wage earners’ children’s children’s children’s expense.

If you don’t get this, don’t argue, you’ll only display the depths of your ignorance for all to see.

There were 21,995,000 employed by federal, state and local government in the United States in August, according to BLS. By contrast, there were only 12,329,000 employed in the manufacturing sector.

WHEN are conservatives going to wake up? This situation is only possible people of massive debt and massive spending by Fed.gov. Such massive debt is ONLY possible when they have a centrally-controlled, unbacked, printed, fiat money supply. The Federal Reserve IS the foundation of left-progressive government.

Return the US to a free-market currency, out of control of any politician or central planner - and only then will you have a chance to kill progressivism.
