The White House has ordered the Pentagon to study gun safety in an attempt to field new technologies that make weapons safer. But the military services don't have any desire for safer weapons, and none of the technologies or products that already exist have found any acceptance among gun buyers.

They're called smart guns - weapons that can only be fired by their owners. President Obama is directing the Pentagon and other federal agencies to both develop and promote smart gun technology. Firearms manufacturers, though, have resisted adding these safety features. Gun safety advocates hope that will change with the president's new initiatives. NPR's David Welna reports.

So now under Obama, the Pentagon is focused on the American public. Surprise.
Yeah, I think I got a patch when I did this in Boy Scouts. Good for the military because they like to wear patches and stuff.

Without doing any research on it, I seem to remember that nut case Jocelyn Elders, saying we need safer bullets. These people really are a bunch of idiots, who just don't get it.
As in bullets that only hurts someone's feelings.

Why doesn’t he just sign up for NRA training? He is wasting our tax dollars again. The NRA training is excellent and already done and ready for potential participants. No “government funded study” needed.
“gun safety” = protecting the government from armed citizens
