Ted Cruz on Trump: I'll never have 'a plane with my name on it'
CNN ^ | 1/9/16 | Theodore Schliefer

Under assault from Donald Trump, Ted Cruz offered something of a thinly veiled contrast Friday....

Cruz, in the middle of an intense 28-county bus tour, has been arguing that he is out working the GOP field on the ground as they rely on "slick Hollywood TV ads."

Asked by reporters if he had much faith in the ground game of a Trump, Cruz mocked his opulence.

"I feel confident that I'm never going to have a plane with my name on it," he said at a church. "How do you run a grassroots campaign? It's very time intensive. It's labor intensive. You don't do it sitting back in the easy chair. You don't do it from a TV studio in Manhattan."

Cruz has consistently poked fun at Trump's wealth, telling a late night host that he would like Trump to write his campaign a large check and joking in a GOP debate that the New York builder should personally pay for a wall on the Mexico border.

However, the jokes at Trump's expense come after the billionaire businessman's has spent significant airtime ribbing Cruz over his Canadian birthplace and whether it jeopardizes his eligibility to be president. Constitutional scholars have said Cruz's citizenship will not be an issue.

First, Cruz said Trump "jumped the shark".

Now he says, "How do you run a grassroots campaign? It's very time intensive. It's labor intensive. You don't do it sitting back in the easy chair. You don't do it from a TV studio in Manhattan.

Cruz is MOCKING "Anita Hill" Trump-- the sissy who, so afraid to fight Cruz head on-- tried to get him disqualified. What a pathetic loser.

Cruz will dominate Iowa- and then, he'll go after Anita Trump in NH.

“after the billionaire businessman’s has spent significant airtime ribbing Cruz over his Canadian birthplace ...”

Ummmm, blame the media for the “significant airtime”. Trump said it ONCE as a response to an interview question.

How about a plane with his title on it: “President of the United States”? Would he settle for that?

It’s OK to own a plane with your name on it. Really.

Trump has _already_ run his “grassroots campaign”. He’s spent DECADES building his personal public brand. His is a “household name”. The moment someone first said “Trump is running for POTUS”, EVERYONE knew who it was about ... but other than Hillary, all the other candidates have to run a “grassroots campaign” _now_ because nigh unto nobody knows who they are.

Oh, no. This means we’ll never be able to slobber in awe of Cruz’s private plane!

Cruz is jealous of Trump’s success. Mocking him is a defense mechanism.

Liberals do the same thing, hence their objection to wealth and success.

Yeah cause Cruz has never built an empire as Trump has. I’ll never live in a Manse but that’s OK as I don’t begrudge those who do.
That being said and after attending Trump’s rally in Raleigh where none of US including Trump were sitting in any kind of chair, I still think Trump/Cruz Cruz/Trump would be fantastic:-)

Mocking Trump by pointing out his success is a terrible strategy.

I expect that Trump is more than sophisticated enough to know how the Press would react even before he made the response. This is an elaborately orchestrated dance, and I think both Trump and Cruz are calling the moves.

... Trump tweets on the subject:

“@SenTedCruz Ted - free legal advice on how to pre-empt the Dems on citizen issue. Go to court now & seek Declaratory Judgment - you will win!”

“It was a very wise move that Ted Cruz renounced his Canadian citizenship 18 months ago. Senator John McCain is certainly no friend of Ted!”

Cruz is talking Cuba communism now, jealous of others hardwork generated wealth. Can’t hide his DNA.

I don’t think it is dumb. If you notice Cruz and Trump aren’t exactly going hard at each. Poking each other with a finger isn’t attacking. I’m sure Trump and Cruz are playing a good game together to make it seem as if they are fighting but not really. They aren’t landing any major blows, its like pillow fighting.

Cruz will dominate Iowa...

To dominate, what would you say his margin of victory needs to be?
