Taya Kyle, wife of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle, hit President Obama with a truth bomb on gun control laws during his CNN town hall Thursday.
Kyle, who was famously touched by gun violence when her husband Chris was killed by a man he was trying to help, told the president she understood his message of hope, but feared his new regulations on guns were giving people a false sense of hope.
"I think that by creating new laws you do give people hope. The thing is that the laws that we create don't stop these horrific things from happening, right? And that's a very tough pill to swallow," she began. "We want to think we can make a law and people will follow it but by the very nature of their crime they are not following it. By the very nature of looking at the people who hurt our loved ones here, I don't know any of them would have been stopped by the background check and yet, I crave that desire for hope, too."
Kyle argued that murderers won't be stopped by new laws. "...The people who are murdering, right, are -- they are breaking the law but they also don't have a moral code that we have and so they could do the same amount of damage with a pipe bomb."
Kyle suggested people be given hope by being told that while gun ownership is at an all-time high the murder rate is at an all-time low.
"I want the hope and the hope that I have the right to protect myself. That I don't end up to be one of these families. That I have the freedom to carry whatever weapon I feel like I need," she added.
Obama responded by saying he didn't believe the rise in gun ownership and the decline in murder rates are necessarily married to each other.
"Overall most cities are much safer than they were ten years ago or 20 years ago," he said. "Now, I'd challenge the notion that the reason for that is because there's more gun ownership. Because if you look at where are the areas with the highest gun ownership, those are the places in some cases where the crime rate hasn't dropped down that much and the places where there's pretty stiff restrictions on gun ownership, in some of those places, the crimes dropped really quickly."
Perhaps, Mr. President, should revisit his old stomping grounds of Chicago and see how those laws are working out.

Taya pretty much had to show up, but I was surprised she was there and I think she led off on the Q&A
I know, Hussein knows, we all know, that outlawing guns means disarming whites.
His response was typical Bozo: “blah, blah, blah, blah, er, uh,...”
He and his supporters are so damned stupid they don’t realize what a dunce he is.
Before today is over certain of her words will be mischaracterized and used against her, and against our side.
NRA leadership, which I myself have not been shy to criticize in other situations, was right to not participate in a staged ambush by 0 and Anderson Cooper.
Next time let them just "Town Hall" and "Town Hall" all night, all week if they want to. But don't show up and dignify it, because it's really just a media event, an ambush waiting for a victim.
IRS audit to follow..................
A Big Hooray to Taya Kyle for her bravery in the face of “ThePotus”.
The Second Amendment was included to Protect Americans from a “Government” like Obama’s.
And wasnât she poised and articulate? I am proud to have been represented by her in this whacky ‘Town Hall’.
Yes, criminals will make their own weapons faster than laws can be made against them however should the feckless and corrupt bunch currently inhabiting the hallowed halls of our precious United States, have their way, we would all be made criminals.
BTW a friend sent me a link to CNN that chopped off the first part of Taya’s question taking most of the wind out of her point. Thanks for posting this to clear that up. The media are not our friends.
Taking guns away from law abiding citizens to control crime is like removing the locks from your front door, to deter thieves.
Well that didn't take long, did it? Please see post 5, especially the second sentence.
I see what you are saying, especially how the NRA did the right thing by not even participating given the vitriol they have taken from the left and Obama specifically, but I am glad Kyle was there and asked that question because it brought Obama down to earth, and of course it forced him to lie again, as well as sounding much more moderate than he really is.
The more we tie him to his words of moderation, even if it is a lie (how he respects the second amendment and gun owners), the more we can move the ‘first down’ further toward our goal line, because Obama IS extreme, and all we have to do is call him on it, and more importantly show the press how they HAVE to call him on it. Even CNN, uncharacteristically, this time had many more pro gun people there asking good questions than I thought would have.
And of course, I REALLY doubt the whitehut ever invited the NRA to anything, so when they do now (or do not), I want to see the press on full coverage on how the NRA people are treated, name calling and everything, which the Bamster can’t ever control himself with. Bring it on Mr POS POTUS.
This talk on saving people from gun violence has nothing to do with taking guns away from routine criminals.
0bama and the Left are totalitarians and they are bent on eliminating (that is ultimately killing) their opposition and enforcing conformity.
Gun registration leads to gun confiscation which leads to democide. All other arguments are diversions from the core issue.
I just watched the whole thing. Did Obama actually seem to flip Taya the bird when he began his contrived response?
Taya is as brave as her husband for stepping into that den of thieves, I would say wolves but wolves actually have more honor than the crew at CNN.
Fox and Friends were going to have Taya on this morning but I didn’t get a chance to see her.
Have Obama go where the Main shootings occur, in the Poor Black Neighbor hoods. There are more shootings there and could be stopped under present law, at the same time get rid of the drug suppliers.
That would be a good Beginning instead of the current Hands off the thugs approach.
It’s all on Obama’s watch, and the blood is on his hands.
The Second Amendment was included to Protect Americans from a âGovernmentâ like Obamaâs.
Exactly, do any of you doubt that the Founders were divinely driven?
God, Liberty, Will, Devotion, Faith, Individual freedoms, Beauty, Truth, Goodness. Conservative Values.
God Bless this Woman & Patriot!
I was watching the video to see if he did just that, but I couldn't stomach watching him any longer.
There was something unsettling about how he had his finger to his lips. I don't think he has ever done that before and it seemed out of character for him.
At first I thought he was trying to look intellectual, but I'm wondering if he was trying to intimidate her.
