A statement from the U.S. Consulate in Lagos said the MRAP vehicles, valued at $11 million, were being handed over on Thursday to assist the West African country with both technical and military hardware to enable it to combat the rising challenges of regional extremism.
Temitayo Famutimi of the U.S. Department of State said: "The equipment donation represents part of the continuing U.S. commitment to Nigeria and its neighbors to counter Boko Haram's senseless acts of terror and promote regional security."
The United States also provides advisers, intelligence, training and logistical support to Nigerian military fighting Boko Haram as well as humanitarian aid and victim support services to some of the 2.5 million people driven from their homes by the insurgency.

I wonder how many are actually going to end up in Boka Haram hands?
Or how many will be sold by the Nigerian kleptocrats.
I hope we do a better job tracking their whereabouts than we did with Fast and Furious.
I wonder how many will end up irretrievably wedged into a roadside ditch somewhere because the drivers (inevitably) lacked the training to drive the things properly?
They’re good I guess for a getaway when the attacks happen/sarc.
Shouldn’t this be ‘Treason’? We are giving the muslim brotherhood and parts there of U.S. equipment....aiding and abeding the enemy???
All of them.
As intended.
Yeah..............riiiiiiight, to the Nigerian Army. I have asked before and will ask again, just what vehicles is he giving them? The same one our military uses now and from our military? Or are these from the big cities he has taken away from the local police?
Anyone know?
Actually I looked up the MRAV program because you made me curious. The MRAVS were purchased in a piecemeal fashion from different manufacturers as emergency replacements for Humvees which were unarmored. This means they posse logistical problems in terms of maintenance and usability because there are to many types of vehicles that vary in performance, capacity towing ability.
They are being replaced with a more standardized design so these were probably vehicles that were going to be decommissioned anyway.
Giving them the Nigerians probably a good idea in this case.
O$hithead got a call that Boko needs the vehicles to haul away the young girls.
Thank you so much for that info. I have been wondering this since obama has been re-stocking Isis with these.
Ugh. While I agree with the sentiment as I have far more faith in Nigeria than in America to put up some kind of armed resistance, I also have far LESS faith in their ability to drive or maintain anything more complicated than a pickup truck.
Regardless of the fact that they make their own vehicles right?
Every one of them will be disabled due to lack of maintenance or in the hands of the enemy inside of 60 days of delivery.
Mark my words.

“Giving them the Nigerians probably a good idea in this case.”
We’d be better off giving the local chimpanzees AK47s.

I have to admit the chimpanzees would be less likely to shoot at us. The USA has a bad track record of arming barbaric groups as a stopgap measure (see also: Afghanistan) and having said groups turn on us in not that long of a timespan.
