CARSON CITY â The rooftop-solar company SolarCity said Wednesday it has been forced to eliminate more than 550 jobs in Nevada because of the new net metering rate approved by the state Public Utilities Commission on Dec. 22.
Where possible, the company said it will relocate affected employees to "business-friendly" states.
The PUC's decision to change the net metering rules "to punish existing solar customers after the state encouraged them to go solar with rebates is particularly callous" and leaves Nevadans to question whether the state would ever place the financial security of regular citizens above the financial interests of NV Energy, the company said in a statement

If I’d wanted this sort of crap, I’d have stayed in California.
That company is a joke. Hasn’t a made a profit since its founding, and is depending on government subsidies for solar.
Another Unicorn-Fart alternate power enterprise that can only survive with direct or indirect subsidies and/or infusions of outside money.
Nevada folks who did not buy into solar found themselves subsidizing this company and its customers.
... Net metering allows rooftop solar customers to receive a credit for the excess power their systems generate.
Customers have to pay NV Energy a monthly service charge to get a credit on their electric bill
this makes no sense to me....
Of course it makes sense. Haven't you ever received an email from a 21 year-old Ghanian heiress whose dead father's $3.4 million estate can be moved to your US bank account, where you can keep 15%, if only you pony up $2,400 for document prep?
It's done all the time.
Florida is becoming solar unfriendly fast.
Home owner companies are now exempting and canceling coverage for solar panels on homes. The FL legislature is doing nothing to stop it. My entire electric domestic water heater is exempted because it at times cycles water through a roof top collector.
Big business every year looks for specific items to EXCLUDE at renewal on policies. What will it be next year?
Interesting it's A-OK with you that the legislator changed the rules for existing customers after the fact.
You must not know a lot about SolarCity. Most panels installed by Solar City are owned by SolarCity. There are those that do buy the panels outright, but that is few and far between. The way it works in most cases is that you pay for the service to reduce your electrical bill. The cost of both the service and the reduced electrical bill is typically lower than your current electrical bill. SolarCity gets the subsidy not the home owner (unless homeowner buys panel outright).
I was thinking of you when I read about this.
And now that Warren Buffett owns Nevada Energy, the solar subsidy is being jerked out from under the owners of roof arrays.
...
Warren Buffett. Perhaps the most successful crony of all time.
It's Nevada nitwits, land of Reid, of course the government will always put the financial interests of themselves and businesses over regular citizens, that's a safe bet.
Which is exactly why they are bitching. I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for them. If you depend upon government subsidies for your company to be profitable, don't be surprised when the government stops subsidizing you.
If you want solar electric power, society will have to do pay for two systems since solar is intermittent. This is just the systems way of recognizing that. However, it does suck for the little guys who found a way to get over on the system and make a paying investment (at the encouragement of the system) only to turn around have the rules changed. Many of these people will be ruined. Thier only hope is the find ways to use thier power as much as possible when it is being generated during the day to use at night. Large hot water tanks and/or ice storage might be options. Batteries are an expensive option. Another might be to sell directly to neighbors at retail rates and undercut the power companies a bit.
A barrel of sunlight has dropped below $20. ;-)
