NO NO NO: Ted Cruz is NOT flip-flopping on ethanol

Ted Cruz's critics are doing everything they can to try and hurt him among voters in Iowa, even if it means accusing him of flip flopping when that's absolutely not the case.

America's Renewable Future has a new post titled "Senator Ted Cruz Listens to Iowa Farmers, Supports Renewable Fuel Standard Through 2022".

In that post they play audio of Ted Cruz answering a question about ending ethanol subsidies, where he said he supports a 5 year phase out of the subsidy. People have done the math starting at 2017 and concluded that the subsidy would remain until 2022.

Of course, his critics are now saying that Cruz is pandering, that he's gone soft, even flip flopped on ethanol in order to get the Iowa vote. But this is simply not the case.

Once again, Amanda Carpenter steps in to explain that Cruz's support for a 5-year phase out is simply nothing new:

"I just listened to the Cruz audio. He said what he's always said. RFS should be a 5 year phase out. It's what his legislation said in 2014"

Even liberal reporter Dave Weigel is flummoxed by those alleging that Cruz is flip-flopping

"Don't understand the "Cruz flip flopped on RFS" charge. He's always been for a 5 year phase out. If he takes office in 2017, that ends 2022. It honestly feels like a pressure group trolled Cruz and asked reporters who don't cover ethanol (uh, hi) to fall for it."

I saw where the original story that Cruz had altered his position on ethanol was posted in "Breaking News".

Now, I can understand where Trumpkins might get real excited and believe that a "flip-flop" by Cruz was a breaking news event...because we all know that Cruz does not flip-flop.

But alas, per Trumpkins, as one can see, Cruz has been as consistent on this issue as he a true, blue 100% American citizen--- (no matter how much donald begs and prays for it to be otherwise.... little don, you're going to actually have to get in the ring with Ted and fight him-- the refs are not going to disqualify him just so you don't get a butt-kicking).

I knew there was a logical explanation. I trust Ted Cruz enough that when I hear the whines, I know there is more to the story and that eventually, the truth will come out. Thank you for setting the record straight.

But Cruz, who has called for phasing out the RFS program over five years, said Americans are fed up with "career politicians" who pander to voters, especially in places like Iowa, with its outsized role in the presidential nominating process.

On the campaign trail did Cruz say "I support a five-year phase out of ethanol subsidies" or did he say "I don't support ethanol subsidies"?

There's a big difference. One is pandering, trying to appeal to both sides of the issue. The other is an honest response....problem is, we all know what happens to stuff that is supposed to happen in the future.

With a 5 yr phaseout I’ll only have to replumb my power tools a couple more times.
When they cleaned up diesel fuel, it only cost me $600 for a new (rebuilt) pump. Oh yeah, MTBE was a great success as well.

Yeah this one ranks right up there with his "flip flop" on gay marriage. The best part is that it ends up making Ted Cruz look even better and the accusers proving that they themselves are liars.

Cruz has maintained the same position, no flip flops. It may just as well be reported in breaking news that Trump flip flopped on the wall: Donald Trump changed his mind on the wall!!! He now says he wants a big beautiful door to let Mexicans in!!!!!!

Trump says exactly that about a door to let Mexicans in. If I leave out the rest of his statement and scream he has flipped on his position it doesn’t make it so. It just takes part of a position out of context and tells a lie.
