Donald Trump and Ted Cruz Are Poised to Seize the GOP Nomination
Observer ^ | 1/5/16 | Brent Budowsky

Posted on 01/05/2016 8:49:02 PM PST by VinL

If Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz join forces during the primary season, running as a potential ticket with either one taking the position at the top, the civil war that now plagues the Republican Party would almost certainly end as a rout of the GOP establishment and a sweeping victory for the anti-establishment rebellion that would choose the nominee.

The mathematics of the hostile takeover of the GOP by the anti-establishment wing of the party are so obvious that the idea of a Trump-Cruz ticket, or a Cruz-Trump ticket, must have occurred to both candidates. Messrs. Trump and Cruz, possibly joined by Dr. Ben Carson, have almost certainly discussed this possibility privately.

Behind the scenes throughout official Washington the prospect of the nomination debacle facing the GOP establishment is generating intense and panicked discussions across the upper strata of the national Republican leadership that can fairly be described as a behind-the-scenes frenzy. The magnitude of the imminent threat to the GOP establishment and the intensity of discussion among its leaders is dramatically understated in a political media that is thoroughly dominated by the hourly attacks by Mr. Trump and the reality television politics he embodies, and is thoroughly uninterested in reporting about the power mechanics of politics that will ultimately determine the nominees of the parties.

There are two mathematical dynamics that reveal the probable rout of the Republican establishment in the 2016 campaign. Consider this:

First, take a careful look at the summary of polling on Real Clear Politics about the battle for the Republican nomination. As I write these words on Tuesday morning the summary results of public opinion for the nomination contest are: Mr. Trump 35 percent and Mr. Cruz 19.5 percent. The figures total almost 55 percent of the GOP electorate. Add to this total the 8.8 percent that favors Ben Carson, who is also part of the anti-establishment rebellion, and the total percent of GOP voters who hunger to overthrow the Republican establishment and choose an anti-establishment nominee approaches 64 percent of the GOP electorate.

The Republican nominee will ultimately be determined by 50 percent plus 1 of the delegates to the Republican national convention. If I were a gambling man in one of Sheldon Adelson’s famous casinos I would place very high odds that the near 64 percent of GOP anti-establishment voters would find a way to reach 50 percent plus 1 of Republican National Convention delegates. Yes, that's how it seemed a few hours ago- and that's how it should have been.

But unfortunately, tonight the lights went out in Trumpville. Don't know what drove him to this level of desperation... maybe backdoor amnesty, new poll coming out..but his lack of judgment and temperament was on full display tonight.

It's one thing to attack the Rino establishment, the networks, and the PC culture...but when you level personal attacks against an ally and kindred spirit, then the question is, what friend or ally won't you attack whenever you feel slighted or threatened?

It appears the answer for donald is ... no one.

We had a good thing going.

Ted can not pass the NBC test. If he could, the question would cause no alarm or bed wetting by his followers. If he is not qualified to be President, he can not be VP.

Good. The Dems need to crap their pants for a change. None of their candidates hold a candle to the Rep candidates. The smug Dems thought by bringing in more gibsmedats from foreign countries to flood our country and promising them lifelong freebies they had a ifelong voting base. Well guess what suckers? A large percentage of the minority voting bloc that are already here woke up from their trance and realized that the Dems don’t care about them at all only lining their own pockets. I don’t think Hillary has a chance despite the fake poll numbers and shrieking support of the LGBT and feminist communiies.

No, you thought you had a good thing going because Cruz has been allowed to ride Trumps coattails up to this point. Now that that is over you are unhinged and panic posting. Trump will be fine once he finishes taking out the trash.

Trump doesn't pass the conservative test.

He passes my Conservative test, along with the vast majority of Americans. I think the polls clearly show that.

At the moment, they’re competitors, first and foremost.

Some may not be looking for a conservative. Yours, yes. Others, maybe, maybe not. Me, no.

I have so posted this 1000 times.
Cruz, a man who lives by principles, core values, and has been conservative and living it since a teenager would never work for Trump. The only thing they have in common is the run for POTUS.
Cruz is a seriously studied man. Trump is a TV star with not much knowledge besides manipulating people.
I would never trust Trump to make bench appointments at any level or plan a strategic foreign policy.
Those voting Trump to screw the GOPe may well be damning out country forever.

I don’t think they would make a good team. Trump needs more of a yes man.

As for being competitors, the more they sling mud at each other, the more it will result in mutual destruction. That is what the GOPe is hoping for. Trump supporters feel invincible. They will live to regret their divisiveness, I predict.

The big loser will be conservatism and the U.S. Constitution and the American people. But hey, you might win lots of emotional battles on FR threads. When we get a President Hillary, you will still have that.

Yes, but there’s a way to compete. They have separate followings. Their combined followings chart a new direction for the GOP and the country. The object was not to alienate either following- so that whoever won— would maintain the coalition. That’s why the Rino’s have been trying to goad them into a fight.

If Trump continues in this direction, he destroys the coalition.

Actually I think it is more the definition of what a Conservative is. For example, some people think passing TPA and the Iran deal, or granting amnesty to illegals is Conservative. And others think protecting American sovereignty and jobs is conservative.

One problem with the nitpicking analysis. It totally misses the mood of the people. Trump strikes a mighty chord with the voters who are pissed as hell with Obama, our goose-stepping government AND our spineless REPUBLICAN WIMPS!

Americans want someone who will seal the borders, enforce the law, end sanctuary cities, deport the illegal aliens, close the subversive mosques and send the Muslim barbarians packing! This is America, not Europe! They are not going to dominate us!

The chaotic multi-cultural experiment in godless Marxism has ended in total failure and we want to restore our Judeo-Christian Republic!

To hell with the Marxists, the fascists, the socialists, the Satanists and the Muslim invasion!

Cut the garbage, cut the crap, cut the government, man-up, gun-up, ammo up and get ready to ruuuumble!!

Cruz and Trump are the only ones with the balls to do this, but I think Trump has the edge as he has more worldly experience and is more of a fighter!

And screw Hillary! Trump;s going to steamroll right over that godless, treasonous bitch!

(I hope you don’t mind me reposting this, Jim, but it seems to suit the occasion.)

You cannot be against religious freedom or supportive of the gaystapo and be a conservative in my eyes.

Trump is good on some issues. He is patriotic. He is also a big government guy. He sees government as the solution while conservatives more likely see government as the problem or at least as an obstacle to a solution.
