The Big Conversation

Ted Cruz returns to Iowa today to kick off a six-day bus tour of the key early voting state. He also enters the week, as the Tribune's Patrick Svitek reported Sunday, "as a bona fide frontrunner and all the scrutiny — fair and unfair — that comes with it."

That scrutiny includes attacks by his rivals for the GOP presidential nomination as well as outside groups. Svitek's report singled out attempts by Mike Huckabee and his allies to take swipes at Cruz in an attempt "to undercut his claim to being the purest conservative in the GOP field."

And Donald Trump appeared on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday where he accused Cruz of copying him on advocating building a wall in response to immigrants crossing into the country illegally. Politico reported Trump as saying, "And I was watching Ted talk. And he said, 'We will build a wall.' The first time I've ever heard him say it," he continued. "And my wife, who was sitting next to me, said, 'Oh, look. He's copying what you've been saying for a long period of time.'"

Continuing its attacks on Cruz is the ethanol lobby. Per Svitek's report, "Also not planning to let up on Cruz is the ethanol lobby, which spent most of December hammering the Texas senator over his opposition to the Renewable Fuel Standard. The pro-ethanol group America's Renewable Future is planning to rev up the attack machine again Monday to coincide with the start of Cruz's bus tour."

Stay tuned today for further reports from Iowa as the Cruz tour begins.

Yes!

I might favor Trump at the moment, but Cruz deserves this state!

He worked hard, he’s a patriot, and God bless him!

Nice try Donald.
Maybe you could have done your homework.
You might have stumbled on this video where Cruz clearly points out his support for a wall WHEN HE WAS RUNNING IN THE SENATE PRIMARY.
Wasn’t Trump still a democrat back then?

Does Trump have a Patent registered at the US Patent office on Walls? On border Walls? Sounds like he is claiming patent infringement.

All I know is that Ted Cruz has stood for the right things before it was politically expedient to do so.

Another Trump lie.
Wake up people.
This guy does not intend on doing what he says. He is a self-serving narcissist who will turn on you when the moment is right.

I'm considering that to be an endorsement.

Trump was a registered Democrat for 8 years after being a Republican for at least 12 years. He was disgusted with the Republican party, sounds familiar. He tried being an Independent, a Democrat and even ran for President as an Independent where he won California’s primary for president in March 2000, despite withdrawing from that contest. Finally seeing America on its knees he decided to come back to the GOP, fully commit to the campaign and get ‘er done.

July 1987 Republican
October 1999 Independence Party
August 2001 Democrat
September 2009 Republican
December 2011 No party affiliation (independent)
April 2012 Republican

Well... let's see, this just backs up Trump's claim that the bought-and-paid-for politicians are all talk and no action. Once you get elected it is what you do, not what you say.

Cruz was a pure globalist on immigration until Trump entered the race. More proof of globalism: 500% incr. H-1B/TPA/Corker bill.

Constantly pointing to Trump's private citizen record when you have Cruz's elected voting record - along with false religious claims of purity - only hurts Cruz.

True the IOWA Caucus could also be called the Vatican Caucus. After all Huckabee a minister won it, Santorum a Choir boy won it, and now a Preachers son is ahead.

I guess we will have to see if White or Black smoke rises to tell us if IOWA elected another religious candidate. White smoke says Cruz won, Black smoke says Trump won.

Either way it hasn’t mattered in the past since Reagan, McCain and Romney lost the caucus.

Re:’Constantly pointing to Trump’s private citizen record when you have Cruz’s elected voting record “

So then since Trump has never cast a vote as he has never held elective office then he is immune from any criticism of his public statements and reversals?
Nice try.
I guess he is immune from any criticism whatsoever then.
You just stick with that line of reasoning and impress us with more sage wisdom pardner.

Bad selective splicing duder. My point is every time you bring up Trump's private citizen comments you force a response of Cruz's voting record, along with his purity claims. Now do you get it?

Cruz's 500% H-1B/TPA/Corker bill shows clearly and distinctly that he is a globalist serving his corporate PAC masters.

See my point? Trump's pre-campaign and older comments are one thing, but Cruz's recent anti-Constitution (Corker changed treaty vote)and anti-worker (TPA) harmed the country.
