Magnets for murderers
Columbia Daily Tribune ^ | December 27, 2015 | MICHAEL R. GORDINIER

Would you post a sign announcing that your home is a gun-free zone? Would you feel safer? Criminals don’t obey these signs. In fact, to criminals, gun-free zones look like easy targets.

In the Tuesday Tribune, Edward Lawlor argued such signs make us safer. He claimed the research of one of the authors here, John Lott’s “More Guns, Less Crime,” has been “refuted.” But he ignores that more than two-thirds of the peer-reviewed research by criminologists and economists that look at national data support those findings and that not a single study finds a bad effect on murders, rapes or robberies.

Since at least 1950, all but two public mass shootings in America have taken place where general citizens are banned from carrying guns. In Europe, there have been no exceptions. Every mass public shooting has occurred in a gun-free zone. And Europe is no stranger to mass shootings. It has been host to three of the six worst K-12 school shootings and by far the worst mass public shooting perpetrated by a single individual. . . .

I live in a fairly rural crime free area. Shortly after concealed carry started being issued a post office was held up in a neighboring town. Guy was never found but I’m curious if he targeted it because of the no gun sign.

A good guy with a gun is no guarantee a bad guy will be stopped, but where there is no armed good guy present, you can be sure there is a guarantee the bad guy will have his way.

It’s gonna be rivers of blood in the aisles at WallyWorld. I predict a shootout over every rollback. All the gang bangers packing heat and busting a cap. Cats and dogs living together.

Pretty much Mass Hysteria and weeping liberal media types.

The same thing Virginia has been doing since 1607; open carry has never been illegal.

Not for long ,as your liberal governor is cancelling reciprocity with a lot of states. Open carry will be the next thing to go.

I’d prefer to live NEXT TO a gun-free zone. If a criminal is going to look at houses on one side of the street in a gun-free zone, and those on the other side where there may or may not be guns, which is he more likely to victimize?

***Would you post a sign announcing that your home is a gun-free zone?***

I remember 1968 after the murder of Bobby Kennedy, when some homes had this sign in the window..”THIS HOUSE IS UNARMED!” It didn’t last long.

I just read an interesting anti-gun editorial. Then I realized it was from LIFE MAGAZINE, May 10, 1968. It is the one with Paul Newman on the cover.

https://books.google.com/books?id=8lQEAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=true

“THE GUN LAW-A STEP TOWARD SANITY”

Sounds like the same dreck they are bawling about today. Same promises and all.

Also has an interesting article on the student rebellion at Colombia U.

Another anti-gun editorial LIFE Magazine

“HIGH NOON FOR THE GUN LOBBY”
JUNE 28, 1968
The editorial in post 14 was before Bobby was murdered.
This one is AFTER he was murdered.
