The Joint Chiefs of Staff has indirectly supported Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a bid to help him defeat jihadist groups, a bombshell report by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh claims.

Hersh writes in the London Review of Books that the group of senior military leaders who advise Secretary of Defense Ash Carter sent intelligence through Israel, Germany, and even Russia.

It’s Hersh.

They must be gaming a way to absolve the WH of the Syrian and Iraqi debacle.

But, it’s Hersh.

take it with a grain of salt...Seymour Hirsch is an a*hole- same left wing writer who claimed GWB was running covert ops into iran in 2008 and was planning to attack before his term was up...

Hersh's source is a "former Joint Chiefs of Staff adviser."
"We weren't intent on deviating from Obama's stated policies. But sharing our assessments via the military-to-military relationships with other countries could prove productive," a former Joint Chiefs of Staff adviser told Hersh.
"It was clear that Assad needed better tactical intelligence and operational advice. The JCS concluded that if those needs were met, the overall fight against Islamist terrorism would be enhanced. Obama didn't know, but Obama doesn't know what the JCS does in every circumstance and that's true of all presidents.''

Be wary of an article when the author’s by-line photo is 3 columns wide and 5 paragraphs high.

while Hersch is a disgusting jerk , IF the US Mil is actually standing up to , or even secretly going around the even greater jerk-n-chief ...that’s a good thing . How/why they follow his orders at all I cannot fathom

If true, then they are traitors and there are consequences for that.

They had other choices, ...like dealing with the traitor-in-chief rather than defying orders.

Like a President or NOT...all orders must be followed unless they are illegal.

Now one could argue from a number of aspects, Obama’s undeclared war in Syria is illegal.

And you know that Hirsch was wrong about GWB running covert ops in Iran in 2008 because you were in the Intelligence Community at the time with access to information about those operations and they weren’t happening?

WWWHHHHAAAAAATTTT - the US military would be working at cross purposes with the Current Regime?

Maybe Chuck Hagel knew something that it was impossible for him to share with the Current Occupant, and Ash Carter was in on the scheme.

Sometimes pragmatism wins over ideology.

I see it another way.

The U.S. Military is taking a stand against Obama’s insane Middle East policy. Makes me proud of the Military.

Hersh decades ago, revealed the names of every CIA agent and anyone else who was with the CIA in Greece. The NY Slimes and Compost printed names of our CIA people in Greece.

A good friend was an agent in Greece at that time. He and his family were in danger. They were evacuated to protect them. We ended up with one of their teen age daughters for about two months. Other non relatives took care of the other children and the wife.

He went to Langley and was retired because of the exposure.

The CIA chief in Greece was killed by communist terrorists due to the leaks by the traitor Hersch.

Hersh is anti America scum. I think that he ran to Cuba for protection after his Greece leaks.

Thanks for telling that story. He should be hung for that.
AFAIK there is no statute of limitations on treason.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, it was not a story. It was a reality that was a scary living hell nightmare for those caught in it.

Hersh's source is a "former Joint Chiefs of Staff adviser."

So if a member of the JCS asks the gardener which fertilizer to buy does, that make the gardener an advisor to the JCS?

A recounting of events is properly called a story.
It carries no inference regarding its credibility.

That cannot be true, because if it were true we would have been regaled about his outing CIA agents like we were when Robert Novak allegedly outed Valerie Plame. (Okay, I am being sarcastic here).
