During a recent appearance on Fox News host Sean Hannity's program, billionaire businessman and outspoken proponent of immigration reform Donald Trump was asked how fast he would "turn things around" if he were elected to the Oval Office.
In response, Trump vowed to immediately "get rid" of the executive orders and actions taken by President Barack Obama in relation to immigration laws.
"One of the first things I'm going to do is get rid of the executive order that Obama says, 'Just come on in through our southern border,'" Trump told Hannity.
"Now, we've had some pretty good luck in court, which is interesting because that's unusual, and they've done a good job on that," Trump added. "But I would end the court case. I will knock out that executive order so fast your head will spin."
The court case that Trump referred to is likely the lawsuit filed by more than half of the states, led by Texas, in opposition to Obama's executive action that has been viewed by many as a de facto amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants in the country.
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that issued a temporary injunction halting Obama's amnesty plans for the time being.
If Donald Trump wins the presidency and does indeed "knock out" Obama's executive orders related to immigration and amnesty for illegals, there would no longer be a need to further pursue the lawsuit designed to prevent Obama from unilaterally granting legal status to illegal immigrants.
Maybe then the government could get back to enforcing the law instead of trying to find ways around it.
