Because no one is able to co-sign her student loans, Ashley Fleming, a 24-year-old college senior with one more semester left, may not be able to graduate. With close to $100,000 in student loans, and no longer allowed to take another leave of absence to work, Fleming has resorted to crowdfunding her tuition and set up a GoFundMe page to ask for help.

Sorry to say this but this fool decided to attend American University in DC with its stratospheric tuition. AU is about as bad a ripoff as there is. She could of went to community college for two years then transferred to AU or gone to one of the fine public universities in VA. Instead of being practical she went with heart and is paying the price.

Sounds like she just got an education in personal finance. Soon she will get a graduate degree in the burden of personal debt. Good luck to whoever marries this one.

We definately need some “comprehesive tuition reform” in this country. These colleges are ripping people off with their outrageous costs. It’s not like this is the newest “smart” phone or tickets to an Adele concert. It’s only college for Pete’s sake!

“Fleming’s dream job is to work for a nonprofit organization focused on higher education.”

43K a year and this is her dream job?

I think she needs to stop dreaming.

Apparently, her pre-college education- lacked even the most basic of required texts:

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?”

I'm gonna guess that her parent said....if you're stupid enough to not go to a community college for two years, we aren't funding you. I just think she's lying her a** off about the whole thing.

In fact, I believe she's liking advertising for free college as advertised by the Dems.

Where's a picture of her? And what is her degree?

there are most certainly some important details missing from the MSM sob-story. The story just doesn’t make sense.

Sorry to say this but this fool decided to attend American University in DC with its stratospheric tuition.

At $43k / year, I'd have to agree! And then she even taps into family members to help her but misses out on financial aid for her final 2 years. I find that usually comes from failures to properly file on time or missing requirements.

What tops everything though is what she is spending almost $200k to get. From the article; Fleming's dream job is to work for a nonprofit organization focused on higher education.

GIVE ME A BREAK! A prime driver of post-secondary (College/University) costs is the 'gold-plating' endemic to the system. Outside consultants, non-profits, NGOs etc. keep the system in a ferment with an endless parade of 'new ideas' to the point of constant change. Problem is that the beneficiaries of the change are almost never the students but rather the professionals involved.

Sigh!

I read the article and I don’t see any mention of her major. Clearly, it is not business.

I don’t understand how these people get such debts? My daughter graduated from a prestigious Ivy League university. She financed it through scholarships, our help and one $5,000 loan-which is now paid off.

My guess is that her parents are co-signers on the $100,000 debt she's already racked up. I'd bet that her parents can't co-sign on more debt because they're already maxed out.

Let’s see——

She still has at least one semester to go in school.....

She is $100,000 in debt......

She wants to work for a non-profit-—at a lower salary than the private sector.

Those brain cells God gave her are adrift——and so is she.
