Huckabee: 'Disappointing' that Evangelicals like Tony Perkins and Co. Are Backing Ted Cruz

Las Vegas -- Mike Huckabee, a longtime ally of Evangelical leader Tony Perkins and other conservative leaders who last week secretly voted to endorse Ted Cruz for president, says it's "disappointing" the group decided to back a relative newcomer like Cruz. In a brief interview here following Tuesday's Republican presidential debate, Huckabee says he was made aware of the group's decision, but wasn't given any explanation.

"For reasons I don't fully understand, years and years of actually doing something and getting things done didn't matter," Huckabee said of the group's deliberations. "And I don't understand that."

Perkins said in an interview last fall that he ultimately expected the competition for the support of conservative movement leaders to come down to Cruz versus Huckabee, both of whom have personal friendships with the Family Research Council president and had already begun courting prominent activists ahead of their 2016 bids.

The former Arkansas governor has longstanding ties to the social conservative movement, which in 2008 helped him win Iowa and become a household name in Republican politics. Much of that support was expected to carry over into the 2016 campaign. But enthusiasm for Huckabee diminished over the summer as he struggled to raise money and faded in the polls. In the end, Marco Rubio supplanted Huckabee as Cruz's chief rival for the group's backing, but failed to prevent the Texas senator from winning a 75 percent supermajority.

Huckabee, according to sources, has often reminded Perkins and his fellow influencers that a major reason he gave up his Fox News show and launched a 2016 campaign was because he expected to have their backing. Their decision to instead support Cruz, then, seemed to sting Huckabee personally as much as politically. "You know, everybody has a right to do what they want to do. But it was disappointing to me. These are guys I've worked with for years and years. Many of them I've helped with their projects and their various endeavors," Huckabee says, shaking his head. A moment later, he adds, "But you know, that's life."

This just goes to show how deep the establishment RINO’s have taken control of the GOP. I used to like Huckabee alright, but he’s now scratched of my list as an enemy of conservatism.

Huckabee wants to be rewarded for his years of service? Maybe he should of stuck his neck out further like Cruz has done repeatedly.

Mike, what have you done? The nation is in a real mess. Change is needed. Not the same old tried and true failures.

Huckabee will sell out Conservatives as quick as a sailor can buy a two dollar whore on a Saturday night. I used to like what Huckabee said but his actions are nothing like his statements.

Are Huckster and Kaysick blood brothers? I despise their Holier than Thou attitudes about using tax dollars to fund their Pearly Gate’s visions.

And I am a severe religious fundamentalist.

Sorry Huck there is more to conservatism than just social conservatism. Not that Cruz is weak on social conservatism but that’s all Huck has.

If he had kissed their butts as hard as he did when he won the last time, they would have endorsed him.

Social conservatives and evangelical Christian leaders all over the country are coalescing around Ted Cruz because he has a very consistent record of conservative positions over decades. Cruz played a major role in courageous fights for conservative causes long before he was elected to the U.S. Senate and has continued the fight in office. It's nothing personal, Gov. Huckabee, but your record in public office simply does not measure up.

So, as a Christian, I do pray for Muzlims (misspelled because I don’t trust those who are tracking us) to be like Paul, miraculously saved. That said, we cannot track their intentions entering our country, and, our gubmint doesn’t want to, Ryan, McConnell included. Cruz is against them entering. Huck is not; Huck is fine with open borders.

Those who are fine with letting them in and “assuming” we are screening them I hypothesize, lock their doors at night and do not allow immigrants to stay at their home at night. They claim that is different. No, it is not.

I had a discussion with a pastor recently who said we should allow them to enter the country and take more and even if we die for it we are dying for Christ. This same person when I asked, do you lock your door at night, said, yes...I said that was hypocritical. He disagreed. A lot was discussed about God’s kingdom being above that of the US. That is true, but I’d say, like the band, The Clash said, “You have a right not to be killed”, and, I’d postulate in Proverbs, many verses call for wisdom. Wisdom says to discern who is trying to kill you directly and who is not - since Taqiyya is a tool they use, and, if you ask do you believe the K0ran and they say yes, then closed borders defines wisdom.

My argument was basically, it has been proven open borders leads to deaths that could have been prevented by a wall and other measures, like locking doors. If God owns all things, owns the US, owns your house, then welcoming the “sojourner” or “stranger” says your house is just a country with smaller borders, and by locking them, you are a hypocrite.
