My best friend is a LEO for a mid-sized city...and he hates the SWAT guys. Thinks they are a bunch of primadonnas that use SWAT time and money to play games instead of being real cops.

Yeah, I get it and, trust me, I felt remorse for the over-reaction of the local fuzz. Interestingly enough, these guys (Local DPS) were also investigated by DEA.

Seriously, they could have just shown up, asked him about his weapon and left peacefully? No lights, no siren, just a friendly visit by those who assignment is “to protect and to serve”.

As to the learned lesson, I agree.
My neighbors and co-workers open carry and it bothers me not. Again...this is west-TX.

It’s actually a two-fer ... these are people who hate both gun owners AND the cops.
So they instigate a situation where the two confront each other while they sit back, enjoy the show and reap the political benefits.
It’s Alinsky applied to violent revolution: make the opposition play by their own rules. Cops respond and are permitted to use lethal force if confronted. The target is justified in using lethal force in self defense.
The question is, is the Progressive freak calling in the fake report able to obscure or otherwise prevent their call being traced back to them?
Like picking up a prepaid cell phone, paying for it using cash? Then destroying and disposing of it after making the call.

That is why there is a massive difference between a peace officer and a law enforcement officer. Totally different mentalities and worldviews.

In a just world, the callers would be dragged out screaming from their homes, and have most bones broken and beat to within an inch of their miserable lives, with video to post on you tube and facebook as a warning to others.

Even if the report is a "suspicious looking dog-walker", it's checked out - because authorities know there'll be hell to pay if that dog-walker commits a serious crime, and it comes out that a "concerned citizen" brought it to their attention.
I can also report that, in over 15 years of taking 9-1-1 calls on everything from UFO's to requests for sports scores, not once was anyone cited for abuse of the 9-1-1 system.
They want to encourage, not discourage, the citizenry from using it.
