On Mondayâs âMorning Joeâ on MSNBC, host Joe Scarborough explained why he now see the 2016 Republican presidential primary battle to now be between Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). .

He’s probably right for this two week period...
I’d say three with Rubio in the mix. I don’t see anyone else in the field as a viable option barring a major shakeup. This debate is definitely Cruz’s moment to take command.
The problem with Rubio at this point is... where does he win? He’s likely to finish out of the top 2 in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. Without a good finish in an early state, he would face a historically impossible road to the nomination.
Iowa never picks the nominee.
The talking head obsession with Iowa is just another pathetic attempt to take down Trump.
Cruz is behind Trump, Rubio and Christie in NH. The winner in NH has won the nomination in the last 2 cycles.
I agree, and I think the nominee will be either Cruz or Rubio.
Considering they give proportional points, you don’t need to win them. The wimmer takes all states will pick our nominee.
Which “moderators” will the GOP Nominees be debating this time?
I agree.
Rubio will eventually inherit the Christie and Bush votes and some percentage of all the rest. I see it as Cruz-Trump-Rubio or Trump-Cruz-Rubio going forward. That should be all that is left after March 1 and it should thin down some after the Iowa caucus on Feb 1 and the NH Primary on Feb 9.
Technically, no you don’t. But how do you sustain a political campaign when you get tagged as a “loser” early on?
Rubio is hoping Bush has completely flamed out by the time of the FLA primary. If Rubio takes Florida decisively, he will be back in the game.
CNN is doing their best to make sure that can’t happen by crowding the stage with candidates that can’t win and shouldn’t be there.
I think their strategy is to have his voice get lost in the crowd.
Rubio doesn’t have a prayer in Florida ... why do you think he’s NOT running for re-relection to the U.S. Senate ?
Where Rubio wins is GOP-E, pumping up Cruz, then with MSM destroying him just like Sarah Palin, then BAM!!!!! Marco rides in to save the day!!!! This is what they the GOP-E want plain and simple!!!! VOTERS BEWARE as much as we ALL love Cruz, just as we did Sarah, the MSM will destroy him!!! They will NEVER destroy Trump they KNOW it!!!!
Florida is later this year than in 2011, after the so-called “SEC primary”. And ask Giuliani how a “we’ll get them in Florida” strategy works, anyway.
John Kerry, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Al Gore, Bob Dole, Walter Mondale, Jimmy Carter (not including incumbents)illustrate your comment to be nonsense.
With all the talk of a brokered convention and the rule change to allocate delegates proportionally, it’s not very likely that many people will drop out.
Kasich will try to pick up delegates in the Ohio primary, Christie in New Jersey, etc..
This will obviously benefit Trump.
It’s a little to early to call it a 2 man race, but if Rubeo or Chisty does not make a move soon then yeah, the anybody but Trump crowd (uniparty) will go all in on Cruz. I am expecting a lot of rat voters voting Cruz in the GOP primaries. Kinda like what happened in Mississippi.
