Plumber sues Ford dealer after truck with company logo was used by jihadists in Syria
Washington Compost ^ | December 14, 2015 | Yanan Wang

The black Ford F-250 started life as a truck for a Texas-based plumbing company, carrying pipes, toilets and their ilk. But then it was sold to a Ford dealership in Houston, and after that shepherded off to parts unknown. Until, that is, it appeared as the focal point of a tweet from a supposed jihadist last December.

The photo indicated that the truck no longer carried ceramic parts; emerging from its cargo bed were a black-cloaked figure and an anti-aircraft gun shooting fire into the distance. According to the tweet, the truck was being used by Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar (or, the "Muhaijireen Brigade"), a jihadist group fighting against the Syrian government.

A year old story with a new twist. Apparently the guy is getting death threats over this. Fox and friends did a segment on this story this morning.

The lawsuit claims that Oberholtzer started to peel the “Mark-1 Plumbing” decal off when a salesperson told him that doing so would blemish the paint on the vehicle. The salesperson, Edgar Velasquez, assured Oberholtzer that the dealership would remove the decal themselves using a tool that “works better.”

Mark-1 Plumbing received over 1,000 phone calls from around the country just two days after the tweet was posted, Oberholtzer’s suit alleges. His entire family feared for their lives, and his secretary was too scared to return to the office. On the advice of agents from the Department of Homeland Security and FBI, Oberholtzer began carrying a handgun.

So the dealer sold it to an overseas dealer. He did nothing wrong.

If the plumber was so concerned, he should have stripped the decals off it when he sold it. We used to do that with our trucks back in the 80’s. I am not sure why he wouldn’t have done that.

I am sorry the guy is getting death threats. Instead of looking for someone to blame, blame himself.

Unless they can show the dealer knowingly sold it to jihadists, it was the owner’s responsibility to have removed the decals.

Who knows how many hands the truck went through before ending up in Syria?

_____________

he was stripping the decals off and the sales man said he would ruin the paint job and that the dealership would take care of it.

did you even read the excerpt? The plumber attempted to peel the decal off and the dealer salesperson told him not to because it would blemish the paint and that the dealership would take care of it because they “had a better tool to do that with”.

Plumbers, please do sell your used service trucks to Jihadists. Just leave a few “pipe” bombs hidden on board, with a GPS/audio safety mechanism so that they will only explode in a specific region, after the sound of gunfire and shouts of “Alahu Akbar!”

What a coincidence that a plumbing company truck was sent to be used by people who had no idea what plumbing is.

“...the dealership would remove the decal themselves using a tool that “works better.”.”

The “better” tool is a hair dryer.

Seriesly.

The dealer lied to the owner of the truck, and through their dishonesty, caused a massive amount of trouble for their customer. That's what was wrong.

Mistake #1 trusting a car dealer.

A heat gun and patience is all it takes.
