Shortly after Ted Cruz told GOP power brokers that Trump lacked the "judgement" to be president, Kellyanne Conway-- who runs Cruz's Keep the Promise I super PAC– defended RNC plans to strip Trump of the nomination at a brokered convention-- even if he wins the majority of votes and plurality of delegates...

KC: No, it's not cheating.

...

Chris Matthews: The candidate who gets the plurality of votes-- the most votes...should be the nominee?

KC: No, I'd have to look at the math.

Read the article. A plurality can be 6% if you have 20 candidates. The primaries don’t allow a runnoff, so you can get a candidate getting 30% of the vote winning, with 70% of the voters preferring someone else. Primaries would be better if they allowed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice.

I agree with you.

The person who wants to be president should pay for all of the extra delegates he needs to become President, if his or her nomination is in doubt.

What if the primaries end and,

Bush- 22%
Cruz-20%
Trump- 20%
Rubio-19%
Carson-15%
Others- 4%

Now do you understand a brokered convention?

Bush would have a plurality, but about 78% of the voters would take anyone but Bush.

I’m shocked and disappointed at the cults of personality that show up on FR.

Using psychological data is precisely the way Obama won two elections. - with the help of Facebook and Google. I saw it happening at the time and was stunned at the breadth of the information they gathered.

I watched 5 minutes of Zero and saw what he was doing because I was trained in the same methods. I didn’t think he stood a chance, outside of hell, of being elected to anything. I was underestimating the stupidity of the American people and depths that the Dems would go to win an election. I was foolish.

If anything is questionable Here it is why would Ted show his cards?

Kellyanne Conway [superpac] demonstrated very poor judgment unless this quote is out of context.

They are planting the seed. They are attempting to make Trump take the first move. They are pods.

On another note, does that woman not look as if she was ridden hard and put away wet?

Would enjoy adding 2 cents to this article but will refrain from doing so until what is read is confirmed elsewhere. Liking Brother Ted and Mr. T, to favor one over the other is next to impossible. If there happens to be last minute rule changes, blatant shenanigans, it would be at that time that the cork comes out of the bottle and the spew erupts.

I'm not informed regarding the bylaws/rules of the GOPs convention, but if three or four candidates wind up within a few percentage points of each other, and the plurality of one of the candidates is in the 20-30% range, then it's absolutely expected that coalitions will develop to ‘broker’ a nominee. That said, if one of the candidates has a plurality of 40-45%, and gets ‘brokered’ off the ticket, I think it would be very dismissive of the obviously large percentage of voters who voted for this candidate.

To their credit, Ben Carson and Rand Paul quickly denounced the Cruz-backed RNC scheme…

Carson ...

If the leaders of the Republican Party want to destroy the party, they should continue to hold meetings like the one described in the Washington Post this morning ... If this was the beginning of a plan to subvert the will of the voters and replace it with the will of the political elite, I assure you Donald Trump will not be the only one leaving the party.

Paul ...

If the establishment tries to block an outsider from winning the nomination, there’ll be war within the party, and they’ll destroy the party.

...

If [voters] see their will thwarted through the primary process, it’ s gonna be a real problem.

Candidates by law cannot have anything to do with Superpacs.
When a member of Cruz’s campaign staff says something THEN you can pin it on Ted.
What I’m waiting for is the noon to nine reactions of the Big Three in conservative commentary, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin. They like Trump okay but they LOVE Cruz.
The Donald calling Cruz a “maniac” for standing up to the senate RINOs and calling big fat liar Mitch McConnell a big fat liar was a YUGE mistake.

I agree. Ol' nate is in the upper ranks of intelligence and being well-informed.

That's why once again, now that you've reminded me, I'm like you;

though do think I'll get over it (while appreciating his points of view).

My own lesser take on things, guessing at it as best I can (although I can't seem to get myself far enough out of the way to make a really good one);

If Trump fades enough; the Branch Trumpidians decide to not go for the buried bus (as they should; only coming out if they did, in exercise of abundance of caution, to go door-to-door in their neighborhoods as campaign volunteers who will vote for Cruz) leave their Mount Caramel to never go back & go a-marching third party instead and succeed(!) in getting the Donaldman TV guy hotel resort-namer Un-Fired to Campaign Rally splitting off a third of the overall vote with 3/5ths to 4/5th of that third coming from people who would otherwise no matter what vote against the Crime Family Foundation lawyer from Chicago (who's first name begins with "H" like hell & Huma that travels with her) resulting in the being elected president of Land which once showed sign of Great Promise, then after that happened no matter WHAT --- (if we let it) they damn well better go home crawl in the bus while the rest of us start digging holes for our own measly hides to hide in too, 'cuz it'd be over soon, all we'd need is air, water and food enough to wait for State, local & Federale Po-Po to eventually get there to burn us out of our misery if the Mullahs didn't beat em to the party punch bowl, which they'd love to arrive at soon enough for a good drink of, themselves, provided the Imperialist Capitalist Running Red Army dogs of Country with Great Wall didn't decide we needed saving sending occupying running dogs everywhere 'cross Land to "keep safe country-poor" (while they collected past due T-bill $$$cash$$$ in form of everything -- farmland & long-legged buxom blonde women) after dead-banged-done-over-and-out nukes slacked off enough from sending the Geiger counters spinning too much, yu go now, yu eat too much.

In other words --- assume the position head firmly between knees and kiss your sweet baby cheeks GOOD-Bye --- it was nice having you hanging around as long as you did.

I'd prefer to die with my boots on, I think.

Yes, the problem with a brokered convention is that you alienate people either way.

That’s why I like the 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice option for primaries.

If 60% of the people love citrus fruit, but hate aplles, one apple can easily win a plurality, if an orange, a frapefruit, and a lemon are in the race.
