Influential Iowa conservative leader Bob Vander Plaats has endorsed Ted Cruz for president.
Cruz is already surging in Iowa and of its first-in-the-nation presidential contest, and the key endorsement will add to perceptions that Cruz is in a strong position to win the state's presidential caucuses.
The news comes just days after a Monmouth University poll showed Cruz edging out Donald Trump at the top of the Hawkeye State.
A second poll from CNN showed Cruz in second place and trailing Trump.
Vande Plaats announced his pick during a press conference Wednesday morning in Iowa.
The evangelical leader has endorsed each of the last two Iowa caucus winners, former Gov. Mike Huckabee (Ark.) and former Sen. Rick Santorum (Penn.). Both are running in the 2016 election, but were passed over by Vander Plaats in favor of Cruz.
Santorum had polled regularly in the single digits before the December endorsement, according to RealClearPolitics. But the former senator gained strength from that point and ended up winning the caucuses.
Eagerly expected. Very welcome.
I’m guessing he’ll get the endorsement of Phyllis Schlafly and the Eagle Forum as well soon.
SURGING, I tell you SURGING....LMAO...ok.....
He'll be 0 for 3 in a couple months.
Back to the bench for you, Mr. Serial Loser.

If Cruz does happen to win Iowa, will Trump accuse him of being mean or just unfair???
Good point. I've not heard anything from her recently.
Can’t you see what they are doing to Cruz? The GOPE and RINO base are using him, he’s not going to win the election...why do you think they are doing all this crap to Trump for, the nomination will go to Trump and then the GOPE and RINO base will do some off the wall crap like the Mississippi thing or a brokered convention and Bush will be crowned and he will lose and Hillary will be in the White House...Cruz is a pawn in this game the same as the rest of them...but they can’t play their game as long as Trump is in there............
If you say so.
No, I don’t buy your theory.

Looks like Cruz’s ground game in Iowa is paying good dividends just as it did in Texas for his senatorial run.
"Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met on Monday with U.S. Senator-elect Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
At the start of their meeting, the Prime Minister said, "I'm welcoming you to Israel on your very first visit. You're a friend of Israel; the United States is a close ally of Israel. We have not only common values but face common dangers........."
May 26, 2014 Cruz arrived in Israel Monday for a two-day visit. He'll travel later this week to Poland, Ukraine and Estonia.
....."So far, he reportedly has met with Israel's Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, Economy Minister Naftali Bennett and the opposition Labor Party's Knesset leader Isaac Herzog.
He also reiterated a recent call for the resignation of Secretary of State John Kerry over Kerry's suggested that Israel was at risk of becoming an "apartheid" state for its treatment of Palestinians.
On Tuesday Crzu plans to tour a medical center in the city of Tzfat.
In Ukraine later this week, Cruz intends to visit Maidan Square, and meet with leaders of the country's protest movement and Jewish and Catholic communities.
The trip is Cruz's third to Israel since his election in 2012"...
You guys are going to feel silly when the voting starts. Breaks my heart for you.
A real man with real knowledge and even temperament - no chance against an undisciplined yard scrapper. Enjoy your gloating, I feel your joy. Just can’t share it.
Well, Santorum won Iowa so he might be 2 for 3 in a few months.
Iowa isn’t such a great “win” in the grand scheme of things no one can deny that. But the momentum infusion, in the short term, can’t be denied.
Also said in his speech today he met with Bibi when he was in US also. One of the Q&A questioners complimented Cruz on his knowledge of mid east.
Thanks!
Go Cruz Go!
