The Marietta High School auditorium was packed Wednesday night, but not for a performance of the Nutcracker or some other holiday play.

The 800-capacity theater was overflowing with people who spent two hours learning how to increase their odds of surviving an attack by an active shooter.

The program, called Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Event, was put on by the Marietta Police Department and combined a lecture of best practices, with video training and 911 calls from actual mass shooting events.

The major take-away: be aware of the surroundings; have a plan; and take action as soon as possible.

Arm yourself and carry at least one spare, loaded, magazine or speed loader. That way you won’t have to rely on a Swingline Stapler or a tape dispenser if cornered...

The Sunday after the Paris attack I was in church and looked for a weapon. The old lady in front of me had a cane and I was determined that if a live shooting occurred I would take her cane and come at the guy swinging it. Mr. Mercat wanted to know whether I would rip it out of the old lady’s hands.

Did the ajc include “get your CCW and practice at the range regularly”?

I hate to say it, but wouldn’t that be the perfect event for a nutcase or terrorist to target.

With armed police holding the event they wouldn’t have much of a chance...

I’ve seen these presentations before; the one thing they don’t show is the civilians armed and defending themselves. They don’t give guidance for that.

But after watching the presentation about a month ago, a retired State Trooper in the audience said:

“If you are armed and the real police show up, put your gun down and show your hands are empty. Otherwise you’re likely to get shot. ERT cops look at the hands first and if they see a gun and no uniform, they are likely to shoot first and ask questions later.”

I can’t even believe we are having this discussion. What has happened to us? Bible prophecy happening right before our eyes?

For 800 people to come out on a worknight for anything is amazing.

That is a bellwhether of what the mood of the country is right now.

Selling 875,000 guns over the Thanksgiving weekend is another.

Would’ve had a larger attendance if the door prize had been an AR.

At the very least people should be looking over their workplace and plotting out their escape route if something like this happens. Plan A B C D E and F if you have to think that far out.

I know I have.

This is the first link to a series of three videos:

Sharham Hadian videos

I urge you to watch all three. They are each about an hour and a half long.

From today’s Gospel:

From the days of John the Baptist until now,
the Kingdom of heaven suffers violence,
and the violent are taking it by force.

Matthew 11
