Why does he oppose this? The president has the legal authority to ban people from any nation and class that he deems detrimental to the interests of the US.

We know that Cruz is a strict constitutionalist, so I'm guessing that he's misapplying the principle that underlies the First Amendment, which is religious freedom.

Ted needs to realize that it*s impossible to tolerate a religion that doesn't tolerate other religions, without ending religious tolerance for all but the intolerant group, in this case, Mohammedans.

Acknowledging this fact is problematic for Cruz, for whom the Constitution is a hallowed document. The framers of the Constitution should have qualified the First Amendment with regard to intolerant, militant, and seditious religions.

I don*t think Trump has worked through this either; he has simply observed that all terrorists are Mohammedans, so we should keep them out of the country (**until we figure out what*s going on**). He is right, even if he can*t articulate the principles involved.

The Muslims who are citizens are our cross to bear. The Constitution makes it so (unless amended).

The ones who want to come under some kind of visitation policy or immigration policy aren’t required to be treated so high mindedly.

Constitutional Rights, in general, and the 1st Amendment, in particular, do not apply to foreign nationals living overseas. The United States is under no obligation to permit immigrants from any country.

We could permit only immigrants from New Zealand who are non-muslim if we wanted to and there is nothing unconstitutional or illegal about it. The President actually has this power to exercise as it has already been granted the President by Congress.

Ted is wrong. For a smart man, he just made a stupid decision and statement.

The Constitution is for Americans and OUR rights not everyone who thinks they can come here and demand them. Cruz knows that.
