The few, the foolish [Women in combat]
Wa Post ^ | December 4, 2015 | Kathleen Parker

As the Islamic State amped up attacks around the world, the Pentagon responded by bravely announcing that American women will now be put in direct ground combat. Whereupon "military intelligence" secured a permanent place in the Encyclopedia of Oxymorons...SNIP...There's plenty of evidence that women and men as groups aren't equal in the demands of combat, even if some women may be and some men may not be. The few and far between shouldn't be the basis for institutional overhaul, though this seems to be our template for mandates these days. Among the evidence ignored by Obama, Carter and others are the results of a nine-month field test by University of Pittsburgh researchers who found that all-male USMC units outperformed mixed-gender units in 93 out of 134 ground combat tasks (69 percent).

If a REAL life and death war breaks out these women are going to have some very major regrets and a huge eye opener. Unfortunately the units that have these deluded wanna be men in them are going to suffer the consequences.

I want to meet the man who doesn’t mind being left behind when wounded, because his comrade (a female) couldn’t carry him off the field.

Doesn’t matter. Fair is fair. It’s time for women to put up or shut up. Men have paid with their lives for our freedom from the inception of this Nation. Time for women to pay their due. Give the men a break. Affirmative “draft the ladies to the front lines” Action.

I am a retired female Air Force officer (prior enlisted). I do not think women should be allowed in combat roles. You can pretend all you like that there are no differences between men and women, but anyone who's served knows that's ridiculous. On any forced march in the Army, male soldiers end up carrying the female soldiers' packs. Those packs are very heavy and women simply can't keep up while carrying them. In addition, men are going to respond differently to women being tortured than to other men.

It's high time the liberals' sticky little hands were removed from the armed forces. War is too serious a business for social experimentation by political children.

Sometimes social engineering will work in the military, like Truman’s integration of the military, I see nothing but grief for this one and maybe for the integration of openly gays into the ranks.
But as we heard last night, dear leader(less) knows best.

Women in combat is doomed to failure just on the merits alone, but additionally, what of those that are ‘assigned’ to combat roles that are not fervently seeking them? I know there are some women that may well be tough enough to do some combat roles, but certainly not women that are “truly” effeminate ladies with all their delicate manners and body frame makeup.

To conscript these is a prescription for sure disaster.

Which may be the goal.

Oh that women would once again return to being women! Is that really too much to ask?

This is self-correcting fad. Once the harsh reality becomes evident, this will go away as the ill-thought out experiment that it is.

My son was a combat Medic in Iraq for two tours. He was also a weight lifter. His unit loved him because they knew he could lift them and carry them if injured. They protected him when they were on patrol. They wanted him safe as they knew if they were injured he could pick them up and carry them to safety and tend their injuries.

Women do not have the upper body strength to do this. They should not be in combat at this level.

To fly an F-16 does not need this strength. If they meet the skill level to do this I have no problem with them killing bad guys. I do not want them on the ground where they probably can not lift up and carry an injured soldier.

When my son was off patrol his unit insisted that he eat and lift weights. They knew what was important.

Well, it isn’t as if the stupidity were just starting.
As much as the idiots who have supported this for decades hate to have a very their faces (deservedly) rubbed in it, this marks a decrease in the stupidity.

If they are in the MOS, they need to fill the billets.
They do not need to be taking up the slots in state side or conflict free postings so that combat troops can’t catch a breather tour between combat deployments. That doesn’t “free a man to fight” because there isn’t an inability to staff the military with males.

I don’t care who this post offends. I am quite willing to debate the idiots who actively helped to get us to this point.

“To fly an F-16 does not need this strength. “

Actually, at 9-G’s (nine times the force of gravity) or more, there is a substantial amount of upper-body strength necessary to accomplish expertly high-G maneuvers.

Thing is, right now, technology provides stand-off and this means less opportunity for dog-fighting. . .THAT is where female’s that fly fighters generally fall well behind their male peers. And when things lose to the merge, which you can expect to happen, we will pay for our PC worship.

In President Reagan’s first term, this idea of women in combat was advanced (under Carter) and The President said okay, let’s have a 90 day trial.

Bring your best, they’ll be trained and then inserted into mechanized infantry units. The results were as expected. Endth the lesson. Now, that was the steel pot infantry, and from what I understand- nothing has changed in the dynamics of human biology. Technology is moot, on this point.

Being equal, yet denied- isn’t what this BS is about, as any sane person should know.

It is extremely dangerous to Our Nation’s Security, and that is what this BS, is ABOUT. It is to further disable US, as far as possible, on every vital level.

Please note that I said “if they meet the required skill level.” If they do not, they should stay on the ground and not front line combat.

An affirmative action military with lower standards is going to cost lives and lose battles/wars!

“...You can pretend all you like that there are no differences between men and women, but anyone who’s served knows that’s ridiculous...”

It is just a waste of a good female brain to put women in the strong back slots. And the rare Wonder Woman Amazon that can hang tough in a ground combat unit will still not do anything positive for unit cohesion and esprit de corps. There is just no military reason for it.

Glad you experienced a double great career—enlisted and officer side!

I suspect this is more about promoting some female major to command a Ranger battalion. Most women enlist to get job skills, not to be in the infantry. Female officers looking to reach high rank need a command rotation in the combat arms. Now this is possible on the backs of their enlisted sisters.
