Ulster County Sheriff: All Licensed Handgun Owners Should Carry Them

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – All licensed handgun owners in Ulster County should carry their pistols. That’s the message Thursday from the Ulster County Sheriff. Ulster County is located about two hours north of New York City.

“In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to please do so,” wrote Sheriff Paul J. Van Blarcum in a Facebook post. “I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon, and knowledgeable of the laws in New York State with regards to carrying a weapon and when it is legal to use it.”

Upstate NY can be pretty conservative. Of course, they have their share of stupid liberals who say things like this...as quoted from the article.

“I think law enforcement is there and paid by us to look after us, and shouldn’t need help from the citizenry to do that,” one man said.

Yeah, that worked so well in San Bernadino.

What a maroon!

Paul is a very popular guy who has the best interests of everyone at heart. I always vote for him. Here in Ulster County, however, the probability of a terrorist attack is probably much lower then it is in the New York City area. Yet, if I, as a retired law enforcement officer, brought my Glock into NYC, I would be in violation of the law. I would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I can be of no help in the event of a surprise attack.

Retired Army. I don’t plan on helping out the idiots that voted for 0bama, or the gun-grabbers of ANY stripe, either.

Other than that, I’m generally a nice, peaceful, God-fearing, good neighbor and Grandmotherly type. ;)

I don't blame you for having "a case of the ass."

You would be crazy to be satisfied with it all.

I’d carry in a heartbeat, but I cannot afford the approximately $500 it costs to get a license (tax stamp). I should not be taxed for exercising second amendment rights.

[[Ulster County (NY) Sheriff Urges Citizens to Carry]]

I wish they’d pass a law making it illegal NOT to carry a pistol

I think law enforcement is there and paid by us to look after us, and shouldn-t need help from the citizenry to do that, one man said, as he was stumbling from the bar to his beat up ford pickup truck with no tail gate and rusted through fenders and a bumper held on with a bungie chord
