Climate change reparations: What does the US owe?
MSNBC ^ | 12/02/15 | Tony Dokoupil

The planet is on the edge of catastrophic climate change, a warming of the globe that is already creating a mind-boggling array of human suffering. The United States is leading an international effort to fix the problem, but no nation holds more historical responsibility for creating it.

We're the top cause of global warming, the all-time leading source of the pollution that traps heat and drives extreme weather. So, as world leaders gather in Paris in hopes of striking a historic deal to curb that pollution, a large and uncomfortable question is bubbling up: Should the United States pay for the climate-related damage it's already caused - and will cause in the future?

Dozens of small, low-lying island nations think so, and on Tuesday they made their case to a sympathetic - but ultimately unmoved President Obama. His administration has fought hard against "loss and damage" payouts, as they're known in the parlance of the United Nations, viewing them as a kind of unlimited liability for bad weather.

We need to add up all of the investments made in America from catalytic converters to smoke stack scrubbers. Don’t forget the industry moved over seas and the wages lost. Once we have that figure we can ask the rest of the world to either pay us for our contribution to clean water and air or pound sand.

The biggest curse for which the USA has been responsible is not the electrical grid. It is the United Nations.

It’s redistribution from rich to poor countries to achieve equality aka we all become poor except for those who are advancing it.

Any historians or economists being consulted? I doubt as this is an effort at extortion by weak and jealous countries. YES, some are disproportionately effected by what they are told is Anthropogenic Climate Warming. Does that mean that there has never been submerged land masses in prior history? Atlantis, Ys and Doggerland appear to disagree!

Let us start with the effect the USofA has had on world politics. I submit that tyranny and colonialism have decreased significantly in the 2.4 centuries of our independence, especially in comparison to any other time period. The sacrifices of 3+ wars, WW1 & WW2 and the Cold War kept tyrannies in check that were otherwise all too likely to win. Even in WW1, it was the USofA’s economic strength that did much to sustain the Allies even before its entry into the armed conflict!

How about economic benefits deriving from the USofA? From agriculture to technology to weather forecasting, the impact of the USofA has been an enormous benefit to the entire globe. The ability of the USofA to publicize new methods even though not invented by them is one of the principal ‘crimes’ cited by those who call the USofA, “The Great Satan!”

Yeah, the US is the most ecologically friendly country in the world and we pretty much single handedly invented the concept of pollution controls for autos and industry.

We also footed the bills for the invention, development, implementation and refinement for anti pollution technologies the rest of the world now uses and takes for granted.

Carbon dioxide is a natural and vital part of the earths ecosystems and a vital part of the Earth's Carbon Cycle which plants, alge, plankton and many microbes rely on for food. Any increase in CO2 in the atmosphere will quickly get consumed and offset by an increase in plant life

CO2 is a trace gas which makes up only 0.4 % of the Earth's atmosphere so it's climate impact is minimal and the levels of atmospheric CO2 are also easily reversible in a very short time span if we ever go past a threshold where global warming is a concern.

We now have very extensive space and ground based monitoring systems that effectively act as early warning systems for any man made climate changes due to CO2 so we will have decades of warning if and when there are any significant warming, which is highly unlikely to occur in any event.

If we do see warming and determine this warming is a bad thing instead of a good thing ( which is more likely the case), all we need to do is slow emissions and let Earth's normal eaters of CO2 in the Carbon Cycle do their thing and bring our CO2 levels back down to lower levels

Reparations for fictitious climate change should be paid with fictitious money.

> The goal is to get the global power structure in place, not to fix the environment. If Obama were to sign off on this, it could threaten getting the global power structure in place. Therefore, he must oppose it. Once the power structure is in place, locked in and and fully unaccountable, they will drop all pretext about global warming etc and get on the doing the real work of global economic, political, and cultural control.

global warming just like EPA regulations just like Obamacare is the pretext to gain and exert more control over citizen's lives...

We're the top cause of global warming

And the scientific basis for this is...?

Apparently; this guy is not familiar with the giant orb in the sky known as the sun, which controls the climate in our entire galaxy and has been the main driver of climate change on earth over the last 5 billion years.

To suggest that 'we' (meaning Americans) are the top cause of 'global warming' indicates that the earth's climate has remained static throughout the course of the earth's history until people showed up.

Such a simplistic mindset among these leftist elites who worship at the altar of supposed anthropogenic global warming.

The only thing left for patriotic Americans to do is to throw off this cloak of repression by our counterfeit leaders and revolt.

Remember: ‘...enemies both foreign and domestic.’

Throw in the Marshall Plan costs while you are at it.

The framework and rough magnitude of reparations is already settled by the UNFCCC. MSNBC is just doing the propaganda to soften up the public.

See, for example, http://cancun.unfccc.int/financial-technology-and-capacity-building-support/new-long-term-funding-arrangements/

Bottom line of this official UNFCCC press release: “industrialized countries committed to provide funds rising to USD 100 billion per year by 2020 to support concrete mitigation actions by developing countries”

MSM propaganda, on the other hand, reports the story like this:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/09/12/kostigen-climate-change-reparations/72014440/

Low-information voters don’t know what to support until they are instructed. If the MSM sprang the full story on them all at once, they’d reject the plan. Instead, the strategy was to bombard the public with global warming end-of-the-world hype. Now that the politically correct and low-information types are sufficiently indoctrinated, it’s time to tell them that it’s all their fault and that they’ve got to pay to atone for their sins. (BTW, the $100 billion is only part of the global warming bill; it’s just the amount of cash transfers. The total cost of the globalists’ global warming scam is easily an order of magnitude greater than this.)

CO2 is not smog. Despite the photographs selected to illustrate MSM global warming propaganda, Beijing’s air quality problems are caused by NOx, SOx, volatile organic compound, and particulate matter emissions, not CO2.

There’s a curious fact about Beijing air quality. By focusing on CO2 emissions, environmentalists make it more difficult to reduce real air pollution; that is, the type of air pollution that make the air that Beijing-ren actually breath so foul. Air pollution control equipment takes energy to operate and reduces the efficiency of generating electricity.
