A civil rights group in Alabama targeted the state's voter identification law in a federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday, saying the requirement that a photo ID be shown at the polls in order to vote discriminated against minorities.

The lawsuit, filed by the Alabama State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Greater Birmingham Ministries, asked for a permanent injunction to stop the law, which took effect last year.

Govt and businesses require id, more than just one form, often.

Voting requires less.

I have a right to firearms yet I hve to prove who i am to exercise my right. Showing a voter id to vote is nothing compared to what I have to do to exercise my 2a rights.

Yet another example of why we need “Loser pays” in this country. There should be consequences for filing frivolous lawsuits in this sue happy country.

Didn’t the SC uphold voter id laws?

Here in Cincinnati, a black poll worker bragged openly that she voted for Obama in 2012 six times. She is now in jail. In Lake County, IN, dead people vote...often multiple times. Oddly, it seems that Democrats are the benefactors of this fraud more often than not. If voter fraud persists at current levels, this Republic is done. Voter ID is but one step to correct this problem. I hope the brightest legal minds in the nation rally to fight for voter ID.

Dear NAACP, what is your “nonprofit” organization doing to assist your people to obtain photo id? My guess is probably nothing because they already have id to access government benefits and you know it. The problem isn’t identification. It is opportunity to vote again and again or to vote where you want them to vote, not where they are eligible to vote, or to vote in place of another registered voter.

Dead people and pets can’t vote with a ID.

Obviously the “idiots” who write laws in Alabama don’t realize that minorities can’t appear in photographs.

It is difficult to understand why these people keep trying to undermine the sanctity of our electoral process. These same “minorities” need photo ID to use their Medicaid cards or travel by air. They don’t have any trouble coming up with identification to leach off the working tax payers. I’m really tired of these losers always wanting something, but never getting off their lazy freeloading rear ends to help protect our voting process.

That makes it appear that the lawsuit is doomed to fail.

Is this another one of those “They all look alike to me” jokes??

This is settled law. Either do not answer the suit or counter sue for $50,000,000,000 to bankrupt them.

It does bother me that so many minorities have no access to automobiles since a photo id is required. The drivers license requirement for driving a car is just more example of brutal race discrimination in the state of Alabama.

I once owned an Alabama drivers license and even though I was very proud, it troubled me to think that many minorities in the state would never have the opportunity to obtain an Alabama drivers license.

It also bothers me that some non-American invaders from foreign countries may have some difficulty obtaining documentation that would allow them to vote for democrats in the state of Alabama.

Anyway - there are still enough states that don't require a photo id and this may help to make up for the injustice in the state of Alabama because non-Americans will be able to vote in those states multiple times in various counties using convenient lists of names of voters who are either dead or just don't show up to vote.

I want to start a class action lawsuit against the NAACP for use of the words “COLORED PEOPLE”.

I find that word to be uncomfortable and it’s obviously racist. Whenever I think of the words COLORED PEOPLE, I want to retreat to my SAFE SPACE.
