The attacks on Donald Trump by the establishment are not forthcoming. Do not expect them to happen. Expect instead that Marco Rubio starts going up in the polls. It has come to this -- the establishment of the Republican Party has decided that Ted Cruz must be stopped. The way to stop Cruz is to not touch Trump and start helping Rubio.
This goes back to the story the other day about Karl Rove helping Ben Carson. The Establishment has decided it wants to keep Trump and Carson in the race for as long as possible. They are now calculating that Bush, Christie, Kasich, Fiorina, etc. can get out and that will give Rubio enough momentum to beat Cruz + Trump + Carson.
The thinking is that as long as Trump is there, Cruz cannot grow further. If Trump gets damaged, his support would go to Cruz. At least that is the thinking.
The Texan portrayed himself as a third way between the stalwart, non-interventionist views of Senator Rand Paul and pro-interventionist policies in pursuit of spreading democracy and human rights through the Middle East that Rubio espouses. Cruz's belief is that trying to democratize those societies can be counterproductive and that U.S. military power should be focused narrowly on protecting U.S. interests.
"If you look at President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and for that matter some of the more aggressive Washington neo-cons, they have consistently mis-perceived the threat of radical Islamic terrorism and have advocated military adventurism that has had the effect of benefiting radical Islamic terrorists," he said. So now the fates of Donald Trump and Marco Rubio are intertwined. The Establishment will treat Trump with kid gloves in hopes of boosting Marco Rubio.

So now they want to help out and endorse him? That should tell you all you need to know about them country-clubbing, Karl Rove lackeys.
ROLF at you Erickson. Did you say that to the 24 people who listen to you on the radio? LoL.
“It has come to this — the establishment of the Republican Party has decided that Ted Cruz must be stopped. The way to stop Cruz is to not touch Trump and start helping Rubio.”
I think it’s just exactly the opposite. I think the MSM/RINOs/GOPe/Dems, etc. are willing to bite the bullet and accept Cruz as the top dog in order to get rid of the hated Donald Trump whom they all consider the biggest threat to the established order in all the political world of Presidential politics. Won’t work, but this is just the latest iteration of the Get Trump the Heck Out of Here if we Want to Save Civilization as we Know It campaign. Even Cruz is preferable to Trump, and they all hate Cruz.
Well said. In some ways, Trump is already leader of the free world. Obama’s presidency has lost all moral authority. He is ruling by executive (and tyrannical) authority only.
Establishment not touch Trump....LOLOL....that’s a good one!
Trump gets hammered, by the GOPe just as hard as he does by the MSM. Confirmation that the GOPe is a part of the Lying MSM, now.
My goodness. It wasn’t very long ago that Erik and Red state were well respected around these parts. I, for one, don’t mind any healthy theories or debate, especially from one of our own (right up until he failed to take the personal oath of allegiance to the Donald).
FR is starting to resemble a “safe space” for Trump supporters only. How quickly we eat our own.
All of this reminds me of a Disney Mickey Mouse comic I read many, many years ago. Somehow Mickey’s dog, Goofy, had gotten mixed up with a pair of skunks, who were having a terrible time getting rid of him, so much so that the boy skunk said to the girl skunk, “Mildred, I’ve use up a whole atomizer [of musk] and he’s still here.” The GOPe is a lot like those two skunks and Trump’s in the Goofy role.
LOL...never thought of that, but your right LOLOL.....

might he make? This 2-hour HISTORY special delves into the Donaldâs past, filling in the details

him tick. We unveil rarely-seen footage â from Donald’s interviews with Phil Donahue, to his
comments about politics from the floor of the 1988 Republican convention.
Erick Erickson is a moron.
Well, there's the problem. If you were Rubio you wouldn't have an ounce of integrity.
Lots of anti Trump people yelling WOLF. If they ever really did get something on him no one would pay attention. MSM has no credibility!
“I donât believe I have ever heard of Cruz being anti-Semitic.”
Nor have I. The reference was to past threads, not involving Cruz, in which posters who used the term “neo-con” were accused of being anti-semitic.
Worst of all, I have a Great Dane who looks a lot like Goofey.
Poor Donald. Everyone is so mean to him. He can't get any coverage. He is in news coverage limbo. His message is being squashed. Nobody is hearing from him. Who is Donald Trump? Is he a liberal or a conservative? I guess since we can only rely on past statements since none of his present positions are getting out, we have to determine he is a democrat supporter. Right?
Go Trump!!!
Really???
Thanks!
Absolutely not true. The NY Times article recently just quoted an insider who said he wouldn't try to hurt Trump because he's keeping Cruz from rising.
Cruz is the biggest threat to the establishment and they know it. Trump's positions are much more moderate and he's shown he will change his positions easily when the right situation comes along. Trump isn't committed to a consistent ideology. Trump is not a small-government conservative. He wants big government solutions to most things.
Cruz is the ONLY real threat to the D.C. establishment running. He's a lifelong small-government conservative who will slash and burn D.C. institutions. That will strip power from the two-party cabal and give it back to the people which is terrifying to the establishment and the big donors who've paid them off to keep the big-government, crony capitalist status quo.
Trump has lived his life in the crony capitalist system, is much more comfortable with it and won't do anything significant to change the status quo in D.C. He will keep it a very friendly environment to big business interests, who he represents as well as any big donor. Unlike Cruz, Trump will support the expanding surveillance state, support Medicare/Social Security with no reforms, continue government funding for some form of universal health care and do nothing to curb eminent domain.
“Trump has lived his life in the crony capitalist system, is much more comfortable with it and won’t do anything significant to change the status quo in D.C.”
And Cruz will leave the illegal immigrants stay in the U.S. and will give them some kind of legal status, thus throwing the majority vote to the Dems for years to come.
