Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani says Donald Trump is correct that there was "some celebrating" by U.S. Muslims after 9/11, but he is exaggerating the amount of people.
"We did have some reports of people celebrating that day as the towers were coming down," Giuliani told CNN's Alisyn Camerota on Tuesday's New Day.
While Giuliani acknowledged there was "some celebrating" but if it were thousands of people he would have "known that for sure."
"I think what's he's doing is he's exaggerating," Giuliani said. "People were celebrating, he's right about that."
"I didn't see any evidence of thousands and nor have I seen any since then," Giuliani added.

There is evidence by Fox News Jennifer Griffin that there were 4000 people celebrating - but that was not in the US.
Did he know what was happening in New Jersey?
Secondly, we’ve seen reports of “small groups” celebrating and even groups large enough to block traffic, people in prisons cheering, and individuals watching televisions in public places expression joy.
It wouldn’t take long to get to “thousands”.
He’s not exaggerating. If there were a few dozen here and a few dozen there, with a large muslim population in NJ, it doesn’t take a genius to extrapolate it to a few thousand. Not an exaggeration at all.
The actual number does not matter. The fact is IT HAPPENED!...................
I recall seeing a group the announcer said was in Jersey celebrating in no uncertain terms, but just one time and do not recall the network which showed it...
The other reports during that week was that there were street celebrations held by the so-called Palestinians. But there were also pictures of a candlelight vigil in Iran.
I don’t believe that anyone with any sense is disputing that there were pockets of people celebrating the falling of the towers. It would be silly to think they weren’t.
But that’s not Trump’s claim: “And I watched in Jersey City, N.J., where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down.”
Guiliani likely has it right - Trump was exaggerating, something that rings quite true.
So the quibble is over the number of people celebrating in the US.
As presented then in 2001 it was an estimate, a hunch, a projection. There was no polling.
As remembered in 2015, the number could be anything.
Yet this becomes the dominant story for days.
Pushing Donald Trump higher in the polls, since the other candidates don’t exist.
Now we agree it happened? We are just quibbling about the number?
Meanwhile every outrageously inaccurate stream of verbiage out of the mouth of B.O. is gospel.
Hundreds, thousands . . as Hillary likes to say . . . “What difference does it make?”
I wasn’t in Jersey but the telivision showed all kinds of Muslims sympathizing with terrorist and cheering at seeing the twin towers come down.
An Arabic-speaking friend of mine of Arabic background and US born, told me at the time of 9-11 that Palestinians in the US were happy that the US got what it deserved. That this was their general feeling in that community and they openly expressed it among each other. I remember dinstinctly at the time thinking that we’re not going to change their thinking because they have a different culture from the US and they’re not on board with mainstream US thinking that terrorism against Jews, Israel and the NY financial district is wrong.
Supposedly Bill O’Reilly will have video tonight of the Muslims in New Jersey celebrating.
Statistically it is a certainty that thousands were celebrating in Jersey City alone.
Good Lord, are they STILL on this?

In addition to the weapons deal, the World Trade Center was specifically mentioned as a future target by one of the characters in this drama and yet none of the people involved in this case are currently in prison. The Strange Story of Dr. Magdy Elamir
The August 2, 2002 edition of Dateline NBC, brought to light the story of another North Jersey character named Dr. Magdy Elamir.
"Last fall, 'Dateline' obtained information about Magdy Elamir. He's a prominent doctor, a neurologist with a practice in Jersey City. Born and educated in Egypt, he moved to this country about 20 years ago and since then has built a fortune. He lives in a mansion, is generous to local charities and is an active supporter of both political parties.
Should counterterrorism investigators take an interest in Dr. Elamir? Well, 'Dateline' obtained a document last fall - foreign intelligence report, that makes a startling allegation about the doctor - that he has had financial ties with Osama bin Laden for years. The report was given to a senior member of Congress, Ben Gilman, back in 1998, when he was Chairman of the House International Relations Committee.
'We have a former FBI person on our staff and I asked him to look it over,' says Congressman Gilman. 'He thought it was credible enough to turn it over to the intelligence people. And we turned it over to the FBI practically immediately.'
This was in 1998.
The report alleges that an H.M.O. owned by Dr. Elamir in New Jersey was 'funded by ben [sic] Laden' and that in turn Dr. Elamir was skimming money from the H.M.O. to fund 'terrorist activities.'
