Is Russia breaking the Geneva Convention by using deadly white phosphorus in Syria? Claims that images and footage show incendiary being dropped on civilians

Numerous reports claim that Russia has dropped deadly white phosphorus on civilians in northwest Syria, as its intensive bombing campaign against ISIS continues.

The chemical weapon is banned under the Geneva Convention, because it is highly toxic and can burn through flesh and bone.

White phosphorus, an incendiary also known as WP, is used by armies to illuminate targets during the night or as a smokescreen during the day.

Shocking images posted to Twitter show the sky allegedly filled with the potentially deadly weapon, as it rains down on the de-facto capital of ISIS, Raqqa.

They understand that the enemy isn’t the weapons and infrastructure but the rabid animals who wield them.

I’d say. I’ve seen the same thing at the baseball games on Friday nights. If you stand under them when they’re coming down you’ll get burnt. Obviously there are those in Syria that can’t appreciate good pyrotechnics.

Although I've not checked personally, I would venture to say that the odds are that the current government of Russia (the successor to the old Soviet regime) is not a signatory to the Geneva Convention, and neither is ISIS.

So, GO VLADIMIR, GO!!!!

White phosphorus is legal to use. It is classified as a smoke agent.

And, napalm should be brought back. The object of war is to win. And, one must do what one must to accomplish that end.

The jihadis wouldn't have any objection to those weapons if they had them.

Is ISIS a signatory to the Geneva Convention? Are their fighters wearing uniforms? Aren’t they all outside the scope of the Convention?

Well, after ISIS beheading, raping women and murdering children, using chemical weapons .... Somebody just now is interested in the Geneva Convention?

I’m sorry, the Geneva Convention is only applicable to equal participants.

Well first of all this clown of a reporter can’t even get his treaties straight, so he should be ignored.

The Geneva Convention has to do with treatment of prisoners and civilians, not with weapons.

The Hague convention, OTOH, does address weapons. However there is pretty much no way at all the ISIS is a signatory so it’s a very moot point. They certainly abide by no laws of war whatsoever, so should be treated like the savages they are and hunted down without a whit of mercy.

This is actually quite the sore point I have with people whining about how we need to treat terrorists nicely because we signed treaty X. No, that is 100% wrong, we should be all the more vicious with people who act like savages and don’t sign treaties, that’s the impetus for people to abide by any laws of war. You either play nice or we don’t either.
