What is anyone going to say who isn’t asked about a frontrunner when they aren’t the frontrunnter? Well, pretty much that the other person isn’t going to win and they are... I can’t imagine anyone answering that question otherwise.

but he doesn't have to say that Trump isn't going to be the nominee.

Do you apply that same criterion to Trump, i.e., that he should not say that another candidate is not going to be the nominee?

Cruz is running to 2nd to Trump in the Iowa polls. Who’d a thunk it? Cruz should have
been the run away leader from the start based upon what we here about Iowa caucuses. What
seems to be different this time is that Trump has awaken a group that normally don’t play
in the political game. If he holds onto them for another 90 days the game will be changed.
90 days is along time in politics but we’ll see what transpires.

And that's what is going to happen. Trump drew 3,000+ in a Des Moines County rally in southeast Iowa where Santorum won the county with only about 388 caucus votes.

It makes it easy doing the math who is going to win for all over Iowa.

I like Cruz less every time he takes a not-so-subtle swipe at Trump, Just this morning Trump said unconditionally that Cruz could be a great President.

Time Cruz returns the favor or I’m done with him.

“...talk a great game when they are on the stump, but they haven’t walked the walk.”

You talk about talking a great game on the stump; Cruz voted for the Corker bill and has been condemning it ever since.

Here is an interesting article on Trump's Iowa game plan. How it works out is
yet to be seen but at least they have a plan.

I also like Ted Cruz but I don’t think he is going to be the GOP nominee. He might take Iowa but 23% to 25% is still a 2pt loss. Donald Trump has a good ground team in Iowa and if 30% of those rally crowd show up to the caucus Trump is the winner.

You know, BFAC...I love your posts. I love your stances. And I like this post.

However, I’ve got to say this about Cruz: No one stands to lose as much as Cruz does with their positions. Trump can go back to being Trump. Carson to being Carson. Rubio is the same he’s always been...unbelievable and untrustworthy.

But Cruz...Cruz is going to be excoriated by his “colleagues” on the right, demonized by his enemies on the left, marginalized by the media...If he doesn’t win, he’ll be back to hhis “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” efforts to fight against the machine.

He’s making it worse for himself with every step forward he takes. He alone makes a “failure” in this personally difficult.

Lindsey - Oh, stop!
Kasich - Please.
Huckabee - Or, what else?
Jeb - Who, in his group, is offended?
Trump - May have actually “grown” his brand;
Carson - Failed for all the “wrong” reasons. Still smart and nice and black...just wasn’t accepted by the “white” world;
Rubio - Unbelievable...as he’s always been;
Fiorina - What change for her? Except more exposure...

No, Cruz makes his life harder taking the stances he takes.

So, go Ted!

I may put together a county-by-county Iowa spreadsheet showing how many likely voters in the same counties who show up to Trump rallies, which I will bump it against the previous 2012 Iowa Caucus winner in the same county. I may even add Trump’s competitor rallies in the same counties to show even more contrast. I know what I’m going to see.

No, but he doesn't have to say that Trump isn't going to be the nominee.

Why not? Look, neither you nor I can know the outcome. Neither can the polls this early in the game. Ted Cruz has run a classy campaign and has scrupulously avoided slagging Donald Trump. And who knows, maybe Cruz will fail to clinch the nomination. But you ought to be willing to take on board the possibility that he will, and that Donald Trump won't. I'd argue that both men have steep uphill climbs, Trumps arguably steeper since his negatives are far higher, and institutional opposition to his candidacy perhaps even more entrenched than opposition to Cruz.

Meanwhile I don't know what to make of your objection to the meekest of political statements that one candidate does not think that another candidate will win. You can't be that thin-skinned.

I’m posting a reply from EternalVigilance to me a few days about about the upcoming caucus. EV is in Iowa and has been in the political landscape so I think he has some feeling for the pulse.

I’m not shy about sharing my “preference.” I prefer none of them. They all hold to public policy positions that violate principles that I consider to be non-negotiable.

At the same time, I know quite well that those who hold to my position are in a tiny political minority, as things now stand.

About all I can say as an honest objective observer, though, is that the staff and organizations of both Trump and Cruz are superior in Iowa.

I think Cruz will be very successful at turning out the rank and file of the “conservative” GOP, beefed up with a substantial portion of the so-called “Liberty” faction.

But I expect the Trump turnout to be similar to the turnouts of Buchanan in ‘96 and Paul in ‘12, except on steroids. I think a whole lot of normally-not-that-political folks who wouldn’t usually participate in the GOP process are going to show up and nearly overwhelm the Republican caucus locations.

That’s my best guess based on experience and observation about the current conditions on the ground.

It isn’t about being “thin-skinned,” as you put it. It’s more about being arrogant to say that Trump won’t get the nomination. That’s the rub, or don’t you get that?

So Carson's support all comes from black, Hispanic, Asian, and "other"?

So Cruz is arrogant for not stating that Trump is going to be the nominee? Are you on drugs? Why would anyone send money or spend time supporting a candidate that didn't believe/say he was going to win the nomination?
