Intelligence chairman: Obama's ISIS 'containment' comment a 'joke'

President Obama's assertion that the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has been contained is a "joke", says the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

"It's proven that ISIS is in 30 different countries... they've got a reach that goes throughout Europe and North America," said Richard Burr (R-N.C.) on the 'Fox News Sunday' program.

"We've got to stop talking about containment. We've got to talk about elimination of the terrorist threat."

ISIS may be geographically contained in Syria and Iraq, but "their efforts around the world to project terrorism and to commit terrorism is as robust today as it's ever been," Burr said.

The North Carolina Republican conceded that there are no specific credible threats against Americans either at home or abroad, but suggested that that assurance is not particularly useful.

"For the past 12 months there have been more threads of threats both here at home and around the world than we've seen since 9/11," Burr said.

He said he would be happy to put together "whatever coalition will eliminate ISIS."

There has to be a Sunni Awakening against ISIS in 2016, like the Sunni Awakening that toppled Al Qaeda in Iraq starting in 2007.

The Current Occupant may be approaching a psychotic break, if it has not already occurred. He has seemingly less and less grasp of reality with each passing day.

Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.[

Unless there is an even greater military commitment than either political party has been willing to make, terrorism will not be destroyed and it must be destroyed.

Terrorism is not about containment which was the policy of Republicans like Nixon and Ike and the Democrats like JFK and LBJ in dealing with the Soviet Union’s Communist Empire.

It must be about total victory and we cannot let the GOPe con us into some limited war that is packaged as being stronger than the piddly Obama response which I don’t think the Republicans honestly want to replace with a meaningful policy.

The Gulf Arabs and Saudis are more important than fighting terrorism to the GOP in the end, we learned that after 9/11/
