Is there anyplace left for Christians to shop?

Well, it’s that time again – time to get out the Christmas list and start hitting the stores.

The problem is – what stores? For any Christian who wants to spend hard-earned dollars with family-friendly, Christian-affirming retailers, restaurants and service providers, the list is growing shorter all the time.

I stopped shopping at Macy’s in 2011 after learning about the retailer’s grossly unjust policy against women. Macy’s management said “yes” to a transsexual young man’s demand to change in the women’s dressing room and rejected a Christian employee’s attempt to block his inappropriate access, even firing her because of her principled actions.

And Macy’s star balloons are now a regular feature of most “gay pride” parades.

I also think it’s nice to actually make things for people.

Three years ago, I started making all my Christmas presents. I must say that, for me, it has put the joy back into giving gifts. The gifts may not be big or fancy, but there is a lot of time & love in each.

I go to Starbucks once a week. After the hubub over the red non-Christmas cups, I just rolled my eyes at the company.

Nonetheless, Starbucks offers a Christmas blend during the season. And when I order it, I proclaim I’ll have a “Christmas” blend loudly and proudly for everyone in the line to hear. :)

Saw a Campbells Soup commercial last night where the little boy had TWO daddies.

We are definitely through the wormhole here.

Maybe Christmas should be celebrated in a less commercial way. I know that retailers depend on Christmas shoppers, but maybe people should spend more time thinking about the true meaning of the holiday.

....now you're playing word games so that you can intentionally miss the point. It is clear that there is a difference between those who sin (everyone) and "sinners" - the unsaved.

Mary Magdelene was not merely a coincidental acquaintance who hung around Him. There was a point to that.....which you miss.

Well that’s not the point here......and I think your father’s curmudgeon spirit has rubbed off on you. To look at exchanging gifts as “swapping money” - wow, very cynical. It’s only that if there is an obsession with knowing how much so and so spent on the gift. Then again, maybe that is important to you.

Now I’ll agree with you that the real meaning of Christmas is more important. And we gave our kids “memories and not stuff” - by taking nice family trips - usually somewhere warm and tropical. Best decision we ever made as a family.
