RAF Typhoons were scrambled to intercept two Russian long-range bombers off northern Scotland on Wednesday, in the latest in a series of provocative operations by the country's air force.
As tensions between Nato and Russia have worsened over the Ukraine crisis, Moscow has significantly increased the number of military flights probing Nato airspace - and submarine activity probing its waters.
The number of interceptions over the Baltic States trebled last year and Nato members including Britain have stepped up air policing support in the area.
Russia’s TU-95 Bear bombers - strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons - make probing flights towards UK airspace about once a month.
The Ministry of Defence says the Russian bombers have never violated Britain’s sovereign airspace, which extends 12 nautical miles from the coast, and publicly regards them as more of a routine nuisance than a threat.
But defence officials have expressed mounting concern over the nature of the flights. Michael Fallon, the then-defence secretary, said the appearance of Bear bombers over the Channel in February marked the first time they had been seen in that area “since the height of the Cold War.â€
"We had to scramble jets very quickly to see them off,†he said.

And I’m just scratching the surface. What about when Russia’s missile fired by Russians proxies shot down a civilian Malaysian airline over Ukraine? Putin brazened that mass murder out.
Remember when our NATO partner Turkey allowed us to use air bases and enter Iraq from the north in the 2003 invasion? Me neither.
Putin’s Russia is the biggest thugacracy to infest this planet since Stalin. Putin has tens of thousands of his minions armed with polonium to spike the tea of anyone who opposes them.

1) Approach as if to penetrate -- to stimulate a defensive response.
2) Observe and Record all defensive emissions and actions.
3) Go home and analyze the data -- looking for weak spots.
4) Return for another probe -- to determine if the weak spots are really vulnerable.
5) Plan your attack accordingly...

I’m divided on this issue.
On one hand, both the Turks and the Russians are dicks.
On the other hand, Turkey is a NATO member.
However, at least the Russians are siding against ISIS.
As long as NATO doesn’t get involved, I’ll call it a hard lesson learned by the Russians not to invade other countries’ air space.
Pretty much where I come down. Russia needs to be a good neighbor and not a bully. Turkey needs to be as aggressive against ISIS as it abuses Turkey’s sovereign borders as it’s now proven it can be against Russia.
Right. They didn’t. And that shows they’re not a very good ally. I don’t think that proves that Putin’s forces should violate Turkey’s air space. Turkey needs to do more to stop ISIS. Putin, if he’s to earn any respect, needs to stick to fighting ISIS and not just supporting his puppet Assad.

Yes, that was IAF (their Air Force runs their air defense) shot down a Syrian Su-24. I’m not sure what you intend by bringing it up in this context, though.
Turkey has sided with Islamic terrorists for many years. Every time the US wants to fly into their air space, we have to beg, plead and bow down to their demands. Nope, I'm on Russia's side in this.
As for that map. It's BS. Click on the planes to see how many of those are listed as "approaching" xyz air space. Approaching doesn't mean they were inside someone's air space.
