Following his defeat to Democrat John Bel Edwards in Saturday's Louisiana gubernatorial election, GOP Sen. David Vitter announced that he will retire from the Senate next year, ensuring another busy year of campaigning in a state with no shortage of ambitious politicians.
Vitter's exit will set up an open-seat race in 2016, and the Republican side of the field is chock-full of potential candidates: GOP Reps. Charles Boustany and John Fleming, state Treasurer John Kennedy, retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness and Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle could all make bids. The Democratic picture is less clear: New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is the most obvious candidate, but he passed on a gubernatorial bid this year. Louisiana has all-party primaries.

Rob Maness for Senate in Louisiana!!
Why doesn’t Phil Robertson enter the race for U.S. Senate.
At least Vitter recognizes he would have no chance to keep his Senate seat.

Buh-bye.
That’s baloney on its face.
The fact that this guy has actually served in uniform will diminish the appeal of the Governor-Elect should he ever try to run for the Senate.
If you claim to be a conservative Republican and cheat on your wife, you are history with the social and Christian conservatives. It’s that simple.
He would’ve been “history” a long time ago, then, because it was OLD news. The people of LA were lied to and manipulated into voting for a corrupt Democrat leftist business-as-usual liar by a combine of Democrats, the media, and the RINO Establishment. I’ve seen that dog and pony show before.
The rest are just clowns.
Just plain old backwardness as far as I'm concerned.
You saw that same bullcrap back in 2003 when they elevated that phony, incompetent Democrat heifer Blanco over Jindal (which had a racial element to it). There were too many corrupt figures in the state that needed or wanted Vitter to lose this time around (sadly, it also included Jindal himself, whose career likely died last night along with Vitter’s).
At least Jeff Landry emerged from the swamp last night, which was a very pleasant surprise (and the second-most important race after Governor). Hopefully he’ll be the first to come out of the AG’s office to better digs in eons. He should hit the ground running to investigate Edwards and his corruption and run his ass out before 4 years are up.
