Bevin says Herald-Leader editorial cartoon one of "racial intolerance"

Gov.-elect Matt Bevin has issued a statement in response to a Lexington Herald-Leader editorial cartoon that took aim at his position on the Syrian refugee crisis.

The cartoon, drawn by editorial cartoonist Joel Pett, ran in Thursday’s edition of the Herald-Leader. The drawing shows Bevin hiding under his desk next to a newspaper showing the Eiffel Tower with the headline 'Paris', and a map of Syria lying on the floor. On Bevin’s desk sits framed pictures, an aid holding one saying "Sir they're not terrorist … they're your own adopted kids!"

Several lawmakers took to twitter saying that the cartoon was inappropriate, and then Bevin took to twitter, as well issuing the following statement.

"They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Indeed, today, the Lexington Herald-Leader chose to articulate with great clarity the deplorably racist ideology of "cartoonist", Joel Pett," Bevin said. "Shame on Mr. Pett for his deplorable attack on my children and shame on the editorial controls that approved this overt racism.

"Let me be crystal clear, the tone of racial intolerance being struck by the Herald-Leader has no place in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and will not be tolerated by our administration."

The Herald Leader has not commented on the cartoon.

On Monday, Bevin issued a statement saying that as governor he would be joining with other governors across the nation in opposing the resettlement of Syrian nationals, "until we can better determine the full extent of any risks to our citizens."

Lefties would have fits if a Republican used a dem politician’s child to attack the parent.

I love that Bevin is calling this Dem attack racist!

So, because Bevin has adopted children of other races and ethnicities, the liberal cartoonist implies he is a bigot or hypocrite to oppose Syrian refugees??? Really?? Liberals really want to go there???

Is there any low to which liberals will not sink to score political points??? Are they that pissed off that Bevin won that election when polls showed a tight race with the democrat ahead???

This guy is great.

As a Governor he will be able to do more than a Senator.

All things...

From Woodrow Wilson to Robert KKK Byrd, modern liberalism has virulent, hateful racism built into it.

Sounds like something a college president would say.

Or BLM.

The left has moved the goal posts so far that no one can fight them effectively because you’re all squabbling over who is the least racist.

True freedom is not giving a damn about phony labels, not pandering to them.

He doesn’t have to shut them down. He can just make it that for the next 4 years they get no access to briefings or press conferences. Nothing that says he can’t do that to a racist newspaper... Using their own tactics against them and taking away what little legitimacy they have.
