Halal vs Kosher (differences and similarities between Islamic and Jewish dietary laws)
Diffen ^

Posted on 11/18/2015 1:38:29 PM PST by EveningStar

Halal and Kosher are terms often heard in the context of meat and dairy, and although it's common knowledge that the terms refer to guidelines on what can be consumed and what cannot, few know what either really means, let alone how they differ. "Is this kosher?" has become a common expression that has transcended the context of religion and food to the point that it simply means "Is this acceptable?" in a colloquial sense.

Halal and Kosher refer to what's permitted by Islamic and Jewish religious laws respectively. Halal is an Islamic term that means lawful or permitted. Although halal in a broad sense can refer to anything that's permitted by Islam, it's most often used in the context of permissible dietary habits, specifically when it comes to meat consumption. Kosher is a similar term used to describe food that is proper or fit for consumption according to Kashrut, the Jewish dietary law. This comparison will restrict itself to the context of religious dietary laws.

A good friend of mine (Christian) who lived in Lebanon for seven years told me that under Islam "camel is permitted . . . but NOT recommended."

Sage advice.

Mohammed took parts of Judaism and Christianity when concocting his own delusional sect. It was suppose to help cover up the moderately crazy stuff. The pathologically crazy stuff was taken out later. These are the Satanic Verses that Rushdie wrote about.

I heard that 100 men tried Camels but 99 still preferred women.

Not a complete list. For example, most insects are not kosher nor are scaleless fish like eel.

I thought all those food prep rules came about due to all the rampant food borne diseases in ancient times. They were codified into their religion.

They are just a waste of time these days.

Although in Acts, Peter did see the vision of the sheet that showed the animals that the Christians were allowed to eat, the only thing close and I had a very long and busy is, do not eat any animals if known, that were offered to pagan gods.

I once talked to a guy who had a Halal chicken processor as one of his customers.

You are correct. He said that they would bring all of these chickens out into a penned area, and then turn on a tape of an Imam praying. Then the bloodletting would begin. They’d start slitting chicken throats and letting them bleed out just as fast as they could go. For once that prayer ended and the speakers fell silent, they had to stop.

Weird!

“No catfish if you keep Kosher. Bummer. “

And yet dogfish is. Doesn’t seem very fair.

cf. amia calva; that kind of dogfish I think is kosher. Not a shark.

I have a question.

Why make such a big deal over what I post? I do not and so should you.

We leave in very troubling times and you make a BIG DEAL what I spell?
