Donald Trump had it right on Vladimir Putin and ISIS; Chris Christie didn't have a clue

By Paul Mulshine | The Star Ledger

Chris Christie reacted to those terror attacks in Paris on Friday by trying to turn them to his political advantage at a campaign event in Florida on Saturday.

"The world is desperate for a strong, secure, smart and tested American president," Christie said. "The hour is too late for people to be trained. We need a president who is ready to serve."

We do indeed need such a president. But Christie comes up short on all four counts.

If you doubt that, consider the governor's statement last month that the first call he'd make as president would be to Russian President Vladimir Putin to inform him the U.S. will be imposing a no-fly zone in Syria.

"Listen, we're enforcing this no-fly zone," he quoted himself as telling Putin in that imaginary conversation on Jan. 20, 2017. "And I mean we're enforcing it against anyone, including you. So don't try me. Don't try me because I'll do it."

Imagine Putin's response:

"What the heck? Would you please put the real president on the phone?"

After Paris, that president is not likely to be Christie. It's not likely to be any of the party insiders who have taken similar positions on the two key issues highlighted by the attacks.

Those are, of course, immigration and the Islamic State crisis.

On immigration, Donald Trump's hard-line position was deemed extremist at first. But these attacks seem tailor-made to make his point, at least with likely Republican primary voters.

From the article - a good question that needs to be answered:

----------------------------

So here's a question I'd like answered by the Clinton/Christie supporters on this issue:

Why was it that your candidate proposed shooting down the planes of the forces that are fighting against ISIS in the first place? Why would you want to enter a civil war on the same side as the Islamic State?

All of my sources in intelligence tell me there is no logical explanation other than a desire to oust the Assad regime and advance the interests not of the U.S. but of various other actors in the region, actors that put a lot of money into American political campaigns.

But maybe someone has a different explanation. If so, let's hear it.

How can a convoluted person who hasn’t resolved his own confusion possibly solve someone else’s mess? Won’t happen.

Whoever aspires to lead must first resolve his own personal confusion. Bush didn’t and Hillary and Christie haven’t.

Enforcing a no fly zone in Syria is become ISIS Air Force.

Assad from Syria asked Russia to do that, and to go after ISIS

So unless Krispy Kreme wants to get into a war with Russia. It’s another dumb@ss idea from this Establishment pig.

Actually I think maybe Fiorina was the one that so adamantly and authoratively demanded a no fly zone. Then a number of other candidates and Clinton piggybacked onto her military strategies.

Except for Trump he always wanted to take out the oil.

Fiorina just wants the reconquista of America by Mexicans, not Moslems.

Bashar Al-Assad is a dictator and a mass murderer.

But the Russians do have a point: any one who is going to replace him is not going to be a secular liberal democrat.

There are no good guys in Syria.

Assad's Syria may be a Little Stalin state

but ISIS is a NAZI state lead by Big Hitler

We need a Churchill that could deal with the reality of who our fight is with right now

In the 1980s the USA was helping jihadis fight Russians so maybe nothing's changed after all....

Good analogy.

Like in World War II, the choice is not between a good guy and a bad guy.

Its a choice between the lesser of two evils.

And Assad is a lesser evil than ISIS.

Assad’s Syria is more like Franco’s Spain or Pinochet’s Chile. And this is Assad, Jr’s Syria. Not the dad who was a son of a bitch.

Assad’s was just as bad or worse, but we did business with him as we did with all the other dictator’s in the ME.

Excellent article. TY. Trump once again the only one who knows what he is talking about.

Reminds me of RR who was called all sorts of names because he understood how to deal with the communists. All Reagan did was to defeat them.

Putting aside her irritating personality, her smugness and blowing up HP, after Trump I think Fiorina may be the overall smartest and hardnosed candidate.

I’ve seen her in many interviews, with a diversity of questions from both friendly and unfriendly media, and she almost always comes up with a good answer that makes sense. And she does not backdown from conflict.

She is smart in that she comes up with answers that ostensibly make sense, until you scratch the surface and realize she’s often spouting total bulls**t.

And she is an Amnesty Pimpstress. Go away, Carly.

The Syrian government done nothing to us to warrant our involvement. If Iran, Russia, and Syria want to fight ISIS, why should we try to weaken them in this effort? The so-called moderates who are allied with neither Assad nor ISIS would rather flee to Europe than fight, knowing that the left will always ditch them when the fighting gets tough.
