The Paris terror attacks may have put a clamp on President Obama's plans to resettle 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year, as the number of governors saying they won't take them swells.
At the same time, top congressional lawmakers are urging the administration to halt the plan. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul called on Obama to "temporarily suspend the admission of all additional Syrian refugees" pending a "full review," according to a letter obtained by Fox News.
The resistance at the state level is coalescing at a rapid clip. So far, governors in at least 17 states have moved to suspend or restrict the refugee resettlement, including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin.
"Given the tragic attacks in Paris and the threats we have already seen, Texas cannot participate in any program that will result in Syrian refugees -- any one of whom could be connected to terrorism -- being resettled in Texas," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a letter to Obama.
Some of these states previously did not object to the refugee plan. But Friday night's terror attack in Paris, which left at least 129 people dead, fueled fears that Islamic State militants are moving into Europe as part of the wave of refugees escaping the civil war, and could eye America next. Authorities say a Syrian passport found near one jihadist's body had been registered last month and moved through three countries along a busy migrant corridor known for lax controls.

Last i heard it was 26 states, and thats just today, tommorrow awaits.
His plan is to bulldoze refugees into the states that protest the most. Look to Jindal to be his first target.
“He will lose this one”
You haven’t been paying attention for the past seven years.
All that has happened in America already. Not one vigilante retaliation.
Yes. They WILL allow it. They already HAVE allowed it.
In Kansas the governor just signed an executive order that no state agencies can assist with refugees....and any private group that gets state grants will lose funding if they assist with refugees.
Boom!
I read the statement here somewhere and I am paraphrasing, but I don’t know who to attribute it to -
If someone gave you a chance to bring 10 apples into your house you would do it. If there was a chance one of the apples was poisoned you would not.
I can’t think of any analogy to sum up the influx of Muslim refugees.
On top of that it makes no economic sense because statistically you are guaranteed that they will take more than they ever contribute, but that is another argument.
If they're smart, all 57 states will refuse.
This muslim president does not care. What he said in Turkey today is that we will experience setbacks. What that means on a domestic level is that he will continue to open our door to refugee populations who will likely have a percentage of terrorists included. In the process some of our malls, schools or sporting events may be bombed or attacked and Americans will be killed. Some may be your sons or daughters. But, that will be a small price to pay in order to show the world we are compassionate and asking forgiveness for raping the world to satisfy our greed.
(By the way: Not a peep will be heard from our congressional reps)
Dump them all in Chicago NYC and dc, with mandatory ankle bracelets. I would be happy to design appropriate ankle bracelets :)
That’s great news.
The governors should bus any migrants they receive to DC.
It’s past time for a standoff. The governors would win if they stand together and don’t back down.
Ever heard of Texas Refugee Committee? A rep from the National group was on radio saying governess can’t stop it because of the money they get from feds. Another big organization feeding off big government but they shouldn’t be over state gov.
Why stop with Syrians? How about all the Muzzies and ALL the wet backs. None of these groups will ever assimilate into this society.
I sure hope the POS loses this one. The American people are due for a win.
But does federal law not trump any state law?
Keyboard spew alert
But does federal law not trump any state law?
Simple, perfect EXCEPT.
Unless you don’t like apples even if one of them isn’t poisoned or if you already have a full barrel of apples.
I don’t like the apples they are mushy, bitter and don’t keep well.
