For immediate release Eric Gurr Congressional candidate in the 8th district of Ohio November 14th 2015
It is difficult to speak and think with a clear mind after the events of Paris last night. But it must be done now. It is time for action. We cannot sit idly and hope that what happened in Paris doesnât happen here. Have we already forgotten 9/11? It has happened here, it will happen again. It will happen again in France. It will happen in Germany and England.
We are told by the politicians that we must not let these acts of terror be used to slander all Muslims. Of course not, but this is not really the issue. We are under no obligation morally or legally to allow millions of people into our nation. It is not my fault, it is not your fault that there is war in Syria. It is not my responsibility to take the risk of bringing radical killers into our midst.
We must immediately stop immigration into this country. This is not racism or xenophobia this is common sense. If we allow one hundred thousand from the Middle East into our nation we can be sure that there are much more than eight radicals bent on killing our children. I will not stand for this. You will hear over the next couple of days that we will be much more diligent in vetting those who come in. This is simply ignorant. We have neither the money nor the time to do this. It is easy for the politicians to say that most will be stopped. This means nothing if it is your child who is at a concert and is brutally attacked by savages bent on destroying all who do not agree with them.
We should also begin the process of returning those recently arrived refugees who may be intent on harming us. Let us be logical and honest in this. There is no way to know who they are. All single arrived males from the Middle East between the ages of 14 and 45 should be immediately deported. When I ran for congress in 2014 one of my opponents said that we cannot deport because we would be called racist and Nazis. So be it. I do not care. If the height of your intellectual response to this very real threat is name calling perhaps you do not belong in a leadership position.
The real horror in all of this is that it is nothing new. There have always been and will always be groups bent on destruction of those opposed to them or those who do not join them. What is new is that political leaders no longer understand that these threats must be met with action.
Friday morning I met with the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and told those in attendance that I was sure violence and war were coming to Europe. I said that it would not be in five or ten years but in less than a year. I did not realize at the time that it would happen in just a few short hours.
If you do not believe this is an act of war I would invite you to think again. What is the nature of the attackers? They are ideologically driven. They are well funded and well organized. They are filled with righteous indignation. These are men bent on war. Hollande, the president of France said himself that war has been declared on France. He is only partially correct. War has been declared by these radicals on all who oppose them.
We have a very small window to prevent the mayhem at home, but we must act now.
Congress should move immediately to return most of these refugees and seal the border against any incoming threats. It will do no good to wait another day. If you do not agree with me now what will you say when it is your child?
The time for fuzzy diplomacy and politically correct speech has gone. It is time for intelligent action. It is time for us to act in the interest of our own nation and our own people. There is no debt we owe to the refugees. There is no honor in trading a few innocent American lives so that many more can escape. It is a trade I do not wish to make.
Good people will be sent back to a nation they do not wish to return to. I understand this. But my children and grandchildren deserve peace and I will not sacrifice.
Do not let those with political motives tell you that it is wrong for us to want to live in peace. It is the natural goal of man. Do not let them tell you that we owe those in war torn nations a safe place. We owe ourselves a safe place.
Most importantly keep in mind that even if we are successful in stopping the influx damage has already been done. Short-sighted and frightened men have allowed hundreds of thousands into this nation already. Radicalization is already here. What closing the door will do is begin to limit the damage. It will give us a static point to begin the fight. We must still remain diligent in finding those among us who intend us harm. My prayer is still for peace in the Middle East. But it is clearly a peace they must earn themselves. We must insist that they bloom in place. Eric Gurr
So... let's post our musings as NEWS!
Thank you, Representative Gurr.
Belatedly, welcome to FR, and I wish you the best of luck in DC. It’s great to know a FReeper will win and represent his district well!!
Is this Boner’s old seat?
Yes. Wish I could vote for this man.
We need to stop admitting so-called Syrian refugees, others from nations hostile to us, and those whose ideology demands they destroy us.
I voted for Eric in the last primary and only wish Kasich wasn’t delaying the vote so long - our district will have no representative until after the special election next June.
Next June? My word, I had no idea it was that far off! What is Kasich drinking, anyway? His campaign is a mess, his stance on the issues puts him almost to the left of Hillary, and now this?
