Can an economy based largely on politically motivated cronyism such as "ours" is, can it still be legitimately called capitalist?

I don't think so. I think "crony socialism" would be a far more accurate, more utilitarian phrase to use for characterizing the self-worshiping, self-destroying system that has evolved between and among Wall Street banksters, The Federal Reserve and the Washington political establishment.

No doubt we need to tackle the real issue facing humans, which we all know is climate discombobulation. We’re talking millions of people here not some 150 or so shot up or blown up by folks upset about being displaced. Numerous private jets will be required to ferry the experts in for the conference.

"The one thing that actually works ... state run communism may not be your cup of tea, but their government works."

That's because they make the families of those who don't obey the government pay for the bullets used to execute those people.

Islamo-Nazi hordes invading Europe, raping, pillaging and killing. And liberals are still fanatically focused on faux science. Al Gore if you can believe it was broadcasting a show about the climate scam from the Eiffel tower last night while the Islamo-Nazi attacks were occurring. This is the priority of liberal wackos.

Many readers may be shocked (though they shouldn't be) to learn that among the signers of the pledge are the chief executives of 10 of the largest oil and natural gas companies: BP, Shell, Saudi Aramco, Total, Repsol, Statoil, Eni, Petroelos Mexicanos, Reliance Industries and BG Group.

I don't see Exxon on that list. I bet that if they were on that list, the NY Attorney General who is trying to prosecute them for past statements on climate change would have laid off. I also wonder how many of these other companies that have signed on are contributors to the Clinton (Slush) Foundation.

Bingo!

"Crony Capitalism" is like "Up Down", "Left Right" or "White Black".

Once you defile Capitalism with Cronyism, it is no longer Capitalism.

It is either Mercantilism or Fascism, depending on the level of government control.

This is how Washington thinks :
We have a computer projection by scientinsts who are funded by the government to give us politically correct date,
or
We can deal with an immediate "clear and present danger" of armies of foreign, all army aged, potential terrorists .
OFtards in Washington want climate change to tax (VAT) us to death, whie inviting armies of miitary aged men to invade this country, to ive on wefare.
Which will bankrupt the country first (?), or more competely ?
I call it "crony capitalist bankruptcy" by the Executive Branch.

“And they are answering the call: Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, Cargill, Coca-Cola, General Motors, General Electric, Microsoft, PepsiCo, Google, Facebook, and dozens more of the biggest corporate names on the planet lined up with President Obama to “take the Pledge.””

The list reads like the cast of corporate-owners of the teams in the Movie “Rollerball”. The Deal domesically is that our President crushes small business by taxes, regulations & anti-Tea Party rhetoric. Simultaneously he strikes these foreign trade frameworks that will impoverish the developing countries in favor of the more efficient producers of the West & Asia.

More than likely there will be a population collapse accompanied by wars, disease outbreaks — all the Biblical-stuff.

Buckle your seatbelts. 9/11 & Paris are just the opening shots.

....can it still be legitimately called capitalist?...

Not really. Small business yes, but the big boys know where the power is centered, and they know congress and the white house are both in the Pay to Play program. Goldman Sachs is the prime example.
Big business and politicians both scratch each others backs.

I would expect the John Birchies to use better language than crony capitalism. At least the Birchites could say corporatism or mercantilism, which are better terms for what is going on. The term crony capitalism makes it seem that free enterprise is a bad thing. What are the John Birchites doing adopting the language of the Left?

(New studies flip climate-change notions upside down)

The sun will go into "hibernation" mode around 2030, and it has already started to get sleepy. At the Royal Astronomical Society's annual meeting in July, Professor Valentina Zharkova of Northumbria University in the UK confirmed it - the sun will begin its Maunder Minimum (Grand Solar Minimum) in 15 years. Other scientists had suggested years ago that this change was imminent, but Zharkova's model is said to have near-perfect accuracy.

Private ownership, subject to effective Government control, is a Fascist economic model.
